This was wonderful.
This was wonderful. We were really glad we got a 9:30 am slot. Not only to beat the crowds but to beat the traffic going up to it. Our driver told us later in the day it can be a 5 hr drive from the train station (it took us about 15 mins). I wish we had arrived by 9:15 am. It would’ve made a more leisurely walk up the hill. There’s a shuttle to take you up - it was packed and they said it took 10 mins - or 10 mins to walk…..it is all up hill. Be sure to wear sneakers. There is a cafeteria to buy water and a snack. We did both this (9:30 ticket) and the Quinta (“The Wishing Well”) on the same day. We had a 1 pm ticket for Quinta - wish it had been for 3 pm. Beautiful place but Note there was scaffolding up on palace when we were there in peak summer season so a little disappointed they didn’t have a work around for the peak period! It’s chaos hard to get too so do plan or save yourself the heartache & go with an organised tour, expect to be pushed through like cattle! Don’t prepay your tickets for anything else only the Pena is busy so give yourself the flexibility rather then committing beforehand!Guest review byAnnaAustralia - 4.0

Portugal does Disney. The only reason to purchase a Palace ticket is to get into the Chalet. Skip the Palace tour - but cover every inch of the exceptional gardens, they are gobstopping.
