CanadaJust beyond the busy tourist attraction of Quinta da Regaliera, this boutique hotel is a beautiful and serene oasis surrounded by forested hills and beautiful blooms. My room number 5 had a view of the Atlantic Ocean in the distance and I woke up with beautiful bird song. The host Diane, was very gracious and helpful and gave me a tour of the facilities upon arrival explaining the fascinating history of the building and grounds and pointing out perfect places in the garden to enjoy a glass of wine and bask in the setting sun. I had a peaceful guided meditation in the verdant garden in the morning - a perfect way to start the day. A medieval pub is next door which specializes in mead and cider and the centre of Sintra is just a 15 -relatively flat- stroll away for more eating options. This is a perfect and peaceful retreat to base yourself in Sintra and I’m looking forward to repeating the experience.

This was our favorite place.
This was our favorite place. There was a long line to get into the “Wishing Well” but it went quick. Be sure to wear sneakers for the long walks, have water, and take a taxi, Boot or Tuk Tuk. We went at 1 pm and the crowds weren’t bad (on Sept 17).

Beautiful place such a beautiful garden to walk around & enjoy!
We drove & thought parking would be easy but it’s not they get you to park at the bottom of a hill in town (far away/ parking gets filled quickly too) as they say there isn’t parking up near Quinta & pens castle so just research & plan how you will get there by talking to people as I didn’t feel internet websites explained this very well! So plan :) if you can staying close do a dry run the night before if you have a car so you understand where you’re going :) or save yourself hassle & go with a tour operator!

A great site with multiple routes through the extensive grounds. The Initiation well goes down steps for several stories, emerging below with a view through a waterfall. We walked here from our accommodations and it made a nice day out. Take a snack or water as the onsite restaurant is very pricey.

Take a leisure walk from where ever you stay to Quinta da Regaleira. Purchase an audio tour and stroll your way through this fascinating "home". Take time to look at the decor and the architecture. Then, plan to spend some time exploring these amazing and unique grounds. Explore the labyrinth of caverns and tunnels as well as the beauty of the flora in the gardens. Purchase your ticket in advance on-line for a discount.

We visited 4 castles in Sintra - Quinta de Regaleira, Pena...
We visited 4 castles in Sintra - Quinta de Regaleira, Pena Palace, Moorish Scales and Monseratte and definitely the Regaleira was our favorite for the intricate architecture and the thoughtful details and stunning views from each nook around the gardens and the palace.
The gardens are magnificent and very well maintained.
So much beauty everywhere, we felt like in a fairy tale. :)

Perfect for my needs, the room was a good size, the bed was really comfy, lovely bathroom with plenty of hot water and a powerful shower. The shared kitchen was well equipped and there was a pleasant dining room and patio. The location is excellent a short walk (5 mins) from the station and Palace circuit buses. Other buses even closer. Take the 1253 to Quinta da Regaleira (2.60 euros) then take a pleasant 15 minute walk downhill and visit the National Palace. The tourist bus ticket is 13.50 euros and lasts 24 hrs from first journey.

Great location, very easy to walk to the National Palace of Sintra and the Quinta da Regaleira. Checkin was easily done by collecting keys from the shop - they actually let us check in a bit ahead of time, and then when we checked out we stored our luggage with them. It’s in the middle of shops and restaurants but very quiet at night!

We enjoyed staying in this old historic building with lots of original features, character and charm. Our room at the front of the building was large and comfortable. Everybody we had contact with were friendly and helpful. The location is perfect being just a short walk from the centre of Sintra and Quinta da Regaleira. We really appreciated the helpful directions on how to find the hotel by car.

Great hotel with brilliant staff, right in the historic centre of Sintra. Very easy to walk to the Quinta da Regaleira from the hotel. Breakfast was good and well stocked. (you need to request at the counter for coffees)
Room was comfortable - beds were great, and complimentary water and coffee is provided.

Very pretty property, comfortable and in a quiet part of town but close enough to walk in easily every morning/ evening. It was easier and quicker to walk to Quinta da Regaleira palace than use transport! Maria was so welcoming and kind, giving great advice for local breakfast places that we probably would’ve overlooked otherwise. Room was very comfortable, especially the bed, and drinks facilities were very handy.

We were in rom 1b which consisted of 2 lovely rooms and a beautiful bathroom in a central but quiet part of Sintra. Lots of nice details and a very welcome bottle of port! Our room had views over the hills and we could see the Quinta da Regaleira from our window. We walked everywhere from the apartment including up to the fort high above Sintra.

The jewel in the crown at Quinta Velha is Armie. She not only checked us in, but she prepared the most wonderful breakfasts and dinners. Notably her soups and desserts. She was cheerful and caring. And gave us some inside tips on finding walking tracks (albeit a bit rough) to the Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira. Quinta Velha is not only a beautiful building with elegant common areas but the garden is extensive with a small pool should one wish to cool off.
