Topkapi Palace

The home of Ottoman sultans for hundreds of years, Topkapi Palace is part of Istanbul’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dating back to 1459, this sprawling royal residence once covered a huge stretch of the shore – and even had its own hospital, mint and mosques within the walls. Now a museum, it displays some of the most important artefacts of the Muslim world.

i know the country is struggling and that they also have to do what they can to reduce the hordes tramping through Topkapi, but you have to be on the level of the British Museum or the Louvre with a once-in-a-lifetime traveling exhibit to justify these kinds of prices. I'm very interested in Turkish history as well as an archaeology buff and it didn't merit the investment. i think they should cut the price in half, offer a steep discount for seniors, and cut off ticket sales at a certain volume each hour. 1,700 lira per person, payable in cash or card (debit/credit) in TL, Euros, or USD. The free audio guide requires you leave your passport as deposit (not $), so be sure to bring yours. There is only one place inside that require women to wear a shawl and they have freebies you can use at the entrance to those rooms. The harem is included in this price, NO need to pay an extra 600 TL. Budget at least a good couple hours just to tour the place.

Too expensive ticket, but if you enter, do eat before entering and grab with yourself a bigger bottled water. There is no place to get a water inside, one spot sells drinks at multiple times the normal price. The trip may last around 3 hours so eat well beforehand. Really recommend going early, as later in the day and after 2 + hours after opening, it gets too crowdy.

1500 Liras per person in June 2024. We had to pay this price for kids aged 7, 9 and 11 as well. You only get discount if you show passports. Overpriced and too many people. Museum is worth visting but not at that price.

The staff were amazing! So friendly and helpful. The roof terrace was a highlight of our trip. We bought refreshments and snacks (at the hotel's suggestion) and enjoyed a beautiful view of the city every evening. We went to a different rooftop restaurant during our trip and honestly the view from the hotel was better. The location is great - short walk to Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern and Topkapi Palace. It was also close to a tram station so we could easily get over to the Galata Tower side.

Everything! The location is great: in the immediate vicinity of the Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque and Topkapi palace. The staff is amazingly nice, in the restaurant Ramazan conquered our hearts, being attentive and sweet. The food is diverse, served in a very nice, intimate atmosphere. Murat, Ömer and Furtian were also great. The room was big and comfortable, very clean. Many shopping and eating possibilities can be found in the vicinity of the hotel. Whenever I will come to Istanbul, for sure I will stay in this hotel!

Highly recommended Hotel in Sultanahmet area. Excellent value for money, awesome location - few minutes walk away to popular attractions (Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace etc), near to the tram line, near to popular restaurants in Sultanahmet area. This is also a very generous hotel in terms of variety of their breakfast. I was surprised of the selection and quality/taste, good job guys. Thanks Florina Hotel for making our time in Istanbul a comfy and memorable one.

Staff were superb! Irfan in particular was so good at messaging with me before the stay and arranged our guided tour, plus restaurant suggestions and making all of bookings. Each was spot on and really helped make our short stay a great one. The room was very nice too and location is perfect. Just 10mins stroll from Hagia Sofia, Topkapi palace, blue mosque, cistern etc. View of the sea and blue mosque when having generous breakfast on the terrace at the top was really good too!

What guests said about Topkapi Palace:

  • Walk everywhere possible.

Walk everywhere possible. Visit Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica cisterns and Topkapi Palace but go as early as possible as they get very crowded. For a trip on the Bosporus get the public ferry from under the Galata bridge to the last stop and go up to the castle and then get last ferry back to Istanbul. The first ferry is at 10.35 and the ferry back is at 3ish. It is very reasonable but there is no commentary but we thought it was excellent but be early to get a good view and position on top deck. We found the best restaurant to be Amedros. We went two times and the food is excellent and good value and the staff friendly attentive.

If you go to Topkapi Palace it is worth paying for a guided tour in order to appreciate it. Audio guides are available but in my experience these are often disappointing. The rooms are often empty and there is limited information to read. A guide brings the place to life.
