Ideal for nature-lovers looking for a self-sufficient getaway, lodges are fully furnished and self-catered. Usually made of wood and surrounded by forests or mountains, lodges can be part of a group or a single unit. More remote than holiday homes, lodges are popular for safari trips.

We loved our stay at Shiga Kogen Lodge. The meals were incredible particularly the dinners which were different each night and allowed us to try many traditional Japanese dishes. The traditional rooms and onsen were excellent. My boys loved to play with their gorgeous dog Moko each day. The owners were so friendly and always available to answer questions. The lodge is super close to Yokoteyama ski resort which had more than enough ski runs for us. We would definitely recommend this place, thank you for a great stay!

This family run lodge is fantastic. I loved everything about it. I could walk to Mt. Yokete to jump on a ski lift or a local bus that shuttles you to the other mountain locations. The couple who own the lodge are so nice and serve the best meals (breakfast and dinner). I enjoyed relaxing in the onsen, after long days of skiing and being entertained by their beautiful golden retriever, Moku. If you have the chance to ski in Shiga Kogen, I would recommend this traditional Japanese lodge.

We had an excellent stay. The staff, food, location, room, everything was great. We had to leave early in the morning and the staff got up plowed snow so we could get to the road. Could not recommend this lodge enough.
