We had a lovely stay at secret paradise panama. The name really fits the place. The host is really friendly and also a lovely chef so would definitely recommend having a meal with her during your stay!

This is THE place to stay if you are interested in safaris within Kumana NP. We had an exceptional driver (as good an animal spotter as our guide!). We were lucky enough to have Sam as our guide. He is a BBC wildlife videographer and knew so much about the animals and their behaviours. It gave us the best chance of having so many great leopard/animal encounters. The food and hotel staff was also fantastic. If I come back to Sri Lanka I would skip Yala and come here for a few nights more. There is no mobile signal in Kumana to alert other drivers to where wildlife is so usually the leopard encounters are just yourself and no-one else. Just note - the national park is still about 45 min drive away from the hotel and Panama is a quiet place (more peaceful than Arugum Bay). Its def not a party place like Arugum bay. Safaris are from 5am until about 6.30pm. I would also recommend maybe bringing a neck buff and protection for expensive camera equipment (towel to cover). There is a lot of dust that kicks up off the road.

The lodges are on the beach between the palms and trees, the food is amazing, the stuff is really nice and welcoming, the owner is also very heartwarming and friendly. During the night you can hear the sound of waves and birds, really calming.

The owner is very friendly and likes to tell about the region and its nature. He also joined us on the boat safari we booked with him. We had a late trip (9.30) but saw multiple eliphants, bizons, and monkeys up close and a crocodile in the distance. We had booked a family room, but he changed that to two rooms for the same amount as the family room. Finally he arranged dinner on our request.

Mohammed is a very friendly and accomodating host. He takes great care of the accomodation and the beautiful garden and surprises you from time to time with tasty pastries made by his mother. We booked a few trips (surfing lesson, safari, tuktuk) via Mohammed and everything worked perfectly. We enjoyed our stay a lot!

Allan was a friendly host and made me feel very welcome! The room was quite large with a private bathroom and everything was clean. The place itself is really cool, a huge outdoor seating area and a kitchen where lodgers can cook. The staff are great - I had a problem with the sink one night and they were immediately able to fix it. There wasn’t aircon in my room but the ceiling fan was really powerful and with a big window it wasn’t too hot.

i have come twice to arugam bay and this is the nicest hostel i have been to. there is a lovely little garden and the rooms are clean and big. the owner of the hostel is fantastic! always helpful and goes out of his way to satisfy every request. you can take surfing lessons with him which are worthwhile, and he also helped us book excursions like the safari. i really recommend it if you are looking for a place that will make you feel at home.

The owner and the location were incredible. You can ask Billie anything, and he will arrange it. He organizes barbecues and safari trips. This was our number one accommodation in Sri Lanka. We initially planned to stay for two nights but ended up staying for six nights because it was so enjoyable. Thank you to Billie and the other staff members who were also very friendly
