Set on the banks of the Tugela River, 22 km north of Winterton, Tugela River Lodge features self-catering accommodation 13 km from Spioenkop Nature Reserve and 22 km from Winterton Museum. We loved this location - quaint, comfortable, and welcoming. The setting and the cabin were fabulous. Julian, our host was great. The cabin had everything we needed. It was clean and roomy, and the beds were comfortable. The wood-heated hot tub was fun. Guest could rent bikes, buy firewood, and 'shop' in the farm stall for fresh eggs, honey, wonderful homemade freezer meals, and much more There are several trails right out the front door that enable you to hike or mountain bike to a reserve with zebras and giraffes. We all wished we could have stayed longer! Thanks Julian!

They have put some much love and attention to the place and also made us feel like home. We enjoyed their beautiful garden, so so special it was!! Montusi Mountain Lodge offers a bar and is located 44 km from Bergville. Guests receive free Wi-Fi access, a children's playground and a swimming pool. Montusi Lodge will always be among the most special places we have ever visited. The grounds are gorgeous and location stunning - remote, with birdsong, epic views towards the Drakensberg amphitheatre and spectacular skies. The food is superb with a daily changing menu and we looked forward to 4 course dinners each evening (and the wine list!). We stayed 5 nights and hiked every day. Before we got there, Dumisani was super helpful with pre-organising transfers to the Royal Natal National Park (about 25km) which has fabulous hiking. Shorter self-guided trails can also be done on the Montusi estate, right from the lodge. A really impressive operation for such a remote location and hosts Lindsey & Mick and their lovely team are to be congratulated. Thanks for making us so welcome and accommodating our thirst for the great outdoors!

Located in Nottingham Road, Gowrie Farm Golf Lodge overlooks a golf course and offers panoramic views of the dam and lush surroundings. It features a sun terrace and a bar. Nice and clean. Good breakfast

Surrounded by greenery, the Winterton Lodge @ Rose Cottage features a splash pool. Elegantly decorated, accommodation at Winterton includes a TV with satellite channels and a private bathroom. We had such a relaxing stay at Winterton Country Lodge. The room was so thoughtfully and elegantly decorated and spotlessly clean. We appreciated the many extra blankets, the aircon & the electric blankets that kept us warm on the chilly nights. It was also lovely and quiet since the rooms are far off the road. There are generous common spaces and a large tv in the common lounge across from the bar that the owner said could be opened until 9pm. We also loved the freshly made breakfast. We’ll definitely be back the next time we come hiking in the Drakensberg!

Such a lovely gem on a beautiful farm. The owners are such good people. We had car trouble on the way there and Jenny didn't hesitate to offer us assistance in driving us 40mins to the nearest car hire company. They really did go above and beyond to make us comfortable, even through such a stressful event. The farm and units are clean, comfortable and very well equipped. I would definitely go back anytime.
