The snowy landscape of the river and mountain slope at this ryokan is beautiful beyond words. The view from our River-view room is awesome and totally worth it. Madam boss is very hospitable and there was a great variety of food at every meal. The beef shabu shabu was melt in the mouth beef and portions are generous! The public onsen was nice especially the outdoor one though a little small but most of the time, you have it to yourself.

It's nicer than on the photos. Staff were very keen to help even though we can't really understand japanese and needed to use the translator app to communicate. Onsen is clean and not crowded when we went so we have the whole place to ourselves. The dinner is fantastic! And there are also free drinks available to guests during the day at the lobby lounge.

Had the most incredible stay at Satoyama Jujo. My wife and I were visiting Japan and in search of a nature retreat from Tokyo for a few nights, and this resort exceeded our expectations in so many ways. The room was quiet and serene, the baths had stunning views of the surrounding mountains, and the food was impeccable. The service was so thoughtful as well; on our last day we were snowed in and couldn't get back to Tokyo, but the hotel made sure we could extend our reservation one night and offered a complimentary taxi to the train station the next day. Hope to be back again one day!
