I had a fantastic 7-day stay at Villa Rumassala—and I loved it so much that I extended my visit by another 10 days. I was based there while completing a medical elective at a nearby hospital, and the villa offered the perfect balance of comfort and tranquillity. Tucked away from the main road, it felt like a peaceful retreat, complete with a serene pool and fresh towels provided daily. The Villas are located about 15 min walk from the main Unawatuna beach and shopping/food area or a short tuktuk ride to Jungle beach (unless you're ok with walking up some steep hills!). The rooms were spacious, exceptionally comfortable, and featured modern, spotless bathrooms. I particularly appreciated the communal kitchen area, which included a kettle and a washing machine—small touches that made a big difference during a longer stay. There was 24/7 security, making me feel safe throughout my stay. There was also a small gym that was open 24/7, however it did not have aircon which might put people off using in the Sri Lankan heat! What truly made my time unforgettable was the staff. They were incredibly warm and welcoming, always making sure I had everything I needed. I was even invited to join in the Sinhala New Year celebrations—a beautiful and memorable experience. The manager was attentive to all our requirements. -Being a vegetarian, I did not have a lot of options for breakfast or other meals, however, the chef Isuru and other kitchen staff went out of the way to make vegetarian meal options for me. -They arranged for a spa treatment upon request for us and the masseuse knew his work. I would like to conclude by saying that both the property and kitchen staff at Tavetti understand the ethics of the Hospitality industry well!

Overall our stay was just beautiful! We stayed for 6 nights at the end of our Sri Lanka trip. We chose the hotel as we wanted one directly at the beach (check: The Hotel is right at the beach and you have a perfect Sea-view from every Hotel), which isn't too big (check: The hotel has 3 rooms total, so you're not just a number) and has at least the possibility to eat there (check: breakfast was included, dinner was optional but we ate there 4 times) John (the owner) and his crew is a really nice and helpful person, he even took us once to Galle, as he had something to do there so we hadn't have to take an Uber there. He was always there for a small chat (if you wanted, he was never intrusive). The boys who work for him are phenomenal! Always nice and accomodating! But also never too much. There was a menu for breakfast where you could choose between different things, in our opinon there is enough choice for a week. We even got asked the last day if we want a typical sri lankan breakfast (which we luckily had as it was really delicious!). What we have to add is, that John wasn't above to clean the beach every morning himself! We saw him cleaning some stuff which felt down from the trees or got blown at the beach infront of the hotel. This shows his passion for this hotel. Hopefully the hotel and the crew stays at is! We really can recommend a stay at Josan Villa! We will be staying there, if we come back to Sri Lanka at some point. Thanks John!

There are only 2 rooms, so 7 days out of 10 of our stay, we were the only guests. A large green area with lots of birds and other animals. An open-air pool with a stunning view of the lake. Very polite staff, always ready to help. The food is quite varied: very tasty local and European dishes. Meals are prepared especially for guests right before serving. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need, even pool slippers. No issues with hot water. The beach is a 10-15 minute walk away, and the nearest supermarket is a 25-minute walk. By tuk-tuk, it's 15 minutes to Hikkaduwa center and 30 minutes to Galle. The hotel is away from tourist spots, making it the perfect place for a quiet getaway or retreat.
