Nestled amongst peaceful native bushland, Kaka Retreat Motel, Stewart Island offers spacious modern suites with kitchenette, flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi. Free transfers to and from the airport and ferry terminal are available. The wonderful apartment is located very close to the harbour and extraordinary! The owner was very friendly and helpful. Our apartment had two separate bedrooms, a large living room with a kitchen and a nice bathroom. The terrace was also very beautiful. We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to return one day to this unique Motel.

The self-contained studio units are adjacent to the main hotel building. The older-style accommodation upstairs in the main hotel offers shared facilities including a communal guest lounge overlooking the harbor, which offers tea and coffee making facilities.

The room was great, the bed was comfortable. The views of the harbour from the balcony were lovely. We were greeted by host when we arrived and they took us and our luggage to our meeting point for Ulva island taxi. They took our luggage to the motel. I would recommend the bus tour of the island too.

Large studio with beautiful view that was very clean & comfortable. Staff were helpful. Great location. Lots of fun watching the kakas, tui and kereru from the motel decks.

Lovely owners, really enjoyed our brief stay at The Bay Motel. We did not manage to contact the property for a pick up but somehow they showed up with transport at the pier seems like they do for all customers. It was a cold day and the heater was already on when we got there. Rooms were clean and well equipped. Will be back on my next visit to Stewart Island.

Would highly recommend this motel and would definitely stay there again! Appreciated the shuttle pick up from the ferry; great location as it's an easy walk into Oban; fantastic views; clean, spacious and well set out rooms; great value for money and really helpful, friendly and obliging manager. Best customer service and motel stay experience I have had for a long time.
