If I would have to sum up my stay in one word it will be Perfection. I have been to a lot of ryokans, and this is one of the bests, if not the best. The moment you first enter the ryokan, and take off your shoes, you are greeted by the amazing staff with tea and local handmade treat, before being lead to your suite. The suite itself is beautifully decorated, spacious and comes with amazing view of lake Suwa from both the common area and the private onsen. Both dinner and breakfast, which are made from seasonal and local ingredients and change daily, were delicious and an amazing experience. The staff were kind to make onigiri, rice balls, from the dinner's leftover rice and deliver them to the suite. At night the first floor tea room becomes a bar serving amazing local sake, and other drinks, along with food. The roof mixed bath was one of the stay highlights, the amazing view of lake Suwa and the surrounding towns as the sun set, painting everything in orange and purple, and then when it became dark and all the lights were turned on was beautiful. The sunrise also was worth waking up for.

Looking for a property with onsen?

Featuring traditional Japanese hot springs known as ‘onsen’, these hotels allow you to take a relaxing soak in therapeutic geothermal waters. Very nice and traditional Japanese hotel on Lake Suwa. The meals were delicious and they were able to accommodate severe allergies. The Onsen is very relaxing and great addition to a trip to Japan. The shuttle from the train station is very easy.

Hamanoyu is everything you could expect from a 4-star onsen hotel located at a popular domestic tourist destination; the lobby was thoroughly impressive, the room, although a bit small, was very clean and quite comfortable, and the onsen was supreme. The location near the shoreline of lake Suwa, and next to a range of other onsen hotels (as well as restaurants and convenience stores), leaves little to be desired, and there is also free parking.

Booked two single rooms for spouse and I as they were out of twin/double rooms. Surprisingly for a single room, it's extremely spacious. The bed was very comfortable. Great indoor and outdoor onsens and sauna in design, variety and size. Japanese breakfast was adequate with limited other non-japanese options. Close proximity (walking) from Kamisuwa JR station and lake suwa.
