A Guichuan couple own the lodge so we were able to enjoy traditional food for supper & learn more about the culture. The lodge is ideally located for hiking the lake trail. The building is new, designed to take full advantage of the magnificent views which span the volcano behind the lake all the way to the lights of Quito, in the far distance. The bed has lots of pillows & the most comfortable bed linen I’ve experienced. You sleep & wake to a full wall picture window of the panorama. The spacious bedroom also has a comfortable couch & wardrobe. The washroom is also large & there’s plenty of hot water. The common area has a wall of windows looking out on the panoramic view as well as a fireplace (which was wonderful coming in after a November hike) & a selection of great interpretative books. Our hosts speak good English & were incredibly helpful. Breakfast was huge with all local products - coffee, tea, bread, cheese, juice, fruits, homemade marmalade, eggs. Wifi was also good. It doesn’t get any better!

I have stayed 2 nights in El Tio and i loved it! The place where the hostal is located and the territory of it is so beautiful, it’s reminded me a lot about the village of my childhood with chickens, garden, wooden walls. Just behind the hostal begins the trails to walk and hike in the Imbabura volcano and the view from there is precious. The owner, Tio, such a nice person. Recommend you a lot to stay there! Gracias el Tio!

Beautiful place to stay, great views of the town, stunning sunsets, friendly fluff friends (including a really cuddly and chatty cat). Our room was really spacious, beds comfy, and lots of blanket to keep us warm. The town is 15 min walk, or less down, maybe more up. The owners are really friendly and help us out a lot (planning and organizing some side trip, deopping us off in town when we had bank issues, ect). Breakfast was good and filling with warm bread, jam, eggs, fresh juice, tea, coffee, chocolate.
