The room was very cosy and comfortable, the bathrooms clean and functionally equipped with everything you could possibly need. The owners were nice and helpful, even though they spoke Japanese, they explained the bus, the hiking possibilities and gave us food recommendations. The location is perfect, 20 minutes walk from the ferry terminal and close to the restaurant and bus stop so you don't need a car. The breakfast is Japanese but adequate.

I came without expectations, and just wanted a good night say with company as I was travelling alone. I really liked the homey experience that Imazaki-san provided. She made sure we felt at home, she brought everyone together and we had a good get together every morning and evening before turning in. If you are able to communicate in a bit of Japanese, it would make the experience amazing. Her place is walking distance from the Airport, and also tucked in between Miyanoura and Anbo ports.

Our stay at Sankara Hotel & Spa Yakushima was absolutely top class and exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, everything about the experience felt thoughtful, refined, and genuinely warm. The setting is stunning and peaceful, the rooms are beautifully designed and immaculately maintained, and every detail reflects a level of quality and care that is truly world-class. The service deserves special mention! Attentive without being intrusive, sincere, and consistently excellent throughout our stay. Dining was outstanding, with beautifully prepared meals that showcased both quality ingredients and creativity. After full days exploring Yakushima, returning to Sankara felt like coming back to a sanctuary - calm, comfortable, and deeply relaxing. I regret not noting the sommelier’s name, but would love to give a special shout-out for his attentiveness and excellent pairings (alcohol and non-alcohol), thoughtfully tailored for both me and my son. This was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had. Highly recommended in every aspect, and we would not hesitate to return.

We stayed in the cottage 5 minutes away, it had everything we needed and the view was beautiful. The staff were excellent, helpful hosts. There was a washing machine and somewhere to hang the clothes with a fan to dry them, a bathtub big enough for two as well as a kitchen. We highly recommend the menu at Takahira Base, super healthy and delicious.

Lovely cabin for a stay on Yakushima! There is a kitchenette with enough for you to prepare simple meals if you wish. Toilet is in a separate room from the shower which was nice. The cabin is very spacious and there’s even a deck with chairs, a table and a hammock. If you are driving they have free parking spaces

Extra convenience of car parked right at door, easy to load suitcases etc. Very good well stocked kitchen and finally, after days of thin futon beds, nice to have “normal” mattress beds to sleep on! Good heating. Nice shower and bath adequate. Very good location at Anbo

The cottage village was easy to find and access by car. Each cottage has its own parking place beside the building. That’s very convenient. The location is great. Reaching hiking routes from there is easy. A supermarket is like 10 minutes away by car. The place was very clean. There is a small kitchen. Cooking simple meals is possible. The air conditioner worked well and kept the place warm enough during the night. The beds were comfortable. The staff were friendly. We had a really good time staying there.

The property was well maintained and beautifully decorated. The place was very cosy, and there was plenty of parking. The owners were very accommodating and happy to chat with us. We also had a very delicious breakfast and dinner and definitely plan on staying here again when we visit Yakushima.

Very good location. Proximity to a lot of excellent restaurants and a few min walk to bus station. Free parking, spacious room, clean toilets and baths, free towels, clean pantry with fridge, rice cooker, toaster etc. Bentos were also delivered to our room at 03:00 am for us to bring onto the Jomon Sugi hike. Maps and schedules were provided to us at check in. Check in only before 1800. Free luggage storage at the fishing store where we checked in at.

Extremely nice hosts (elderly Japanese couple), very good service, e.g. help with bus schedules for hiking tours, washing service, lunch pack upon request. Communication via Google translate very easy. Impeccably clean facilities. Extraordinary breakfast (Japanese with western influence, great coffee). Room was spacious, comfortable breakfast area. Parking lot available (free). Decent restaurants closeby (ask for recommendations).
