A very nice and peaceful hotel near the main railway station. The location is about a half-hour walk away from the city centre. The staff were incredibly polite and nice. The overall atmosphere is very relaxing, with a huge inner courtyard filled with water and trees. The public bath was not congested at all, was clean and was a perfect way to relax after days full of walking. The view from our corner room was incredible, especially at night. The room was very spacious and the bed was comfortable. Overall, we are very happy with our choice to stay here and getting a king room. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Situated along Tanohara River and surrounded by tranquil nature in Kurokawa Onsen hot spring area, Oku no Yu Ryokan offers charming Japanese-style accommodation and various hot spring baths. Very special place with a traditional japanese things, like onsen baths, hosting and meals! Very recommended to try this experience.

Located in the heart of the city, Hotel Nikko Kumamoto features accommodations with free wired internet access and views of Kumamoto Castle. The service was exceptional. We especially felt well-taken care of by Ms. Yamada, our concierge and her staff. Her dining and sight-seeing recommendations were perfect for us and made our trip most memorable. Thank you! We chose Kikuchi instead of Kumamoto, to get away from the city before our trip to Mt Aso. We got a lovely country house, but the main benefit was the lovely couple who hosted us. Super friendly and helpful. I enjoyed breakfast, my wife skipped hers, so the host packed it as a bento box for our lunch. Vegetables from the garden. A guided visit to the forest to see fireflies. Tastes of local food and drink. It was if we were lodging with my favourite aunt and uncle.

The old Japanese house was warm and homey and the hosts were kind and welcoming. Two cats were a bonus. Dinner at the Thai restaurant was exceptional and highly recommended! I would be back anytime and ideally would stay for longer!
