Soul Shine is the best accommodation choice in the Playa Avellanas area. The cabinas are spacious and clean with comfortable beds, good WiFi, air conditioning and a mini-fridge. The pool is a gorgeous place to relax and the grounds are laden with lush tropical flowers and vegetation. The location is amazing - Avellanas beach is a short walk away, and so are many great restaurants, including Barumis (burgers), Lola’s, La Parruja, and La Esquina, a community space with tacos, sushi, cocktails and other tasty food (visit the public market there on Friday nights for local vendors and live music). You can also walk next door and get some gelato! Owners Yael and Roee are the ultimate hosts and will ensure your stay is as perfect as possible. You really are part of the family when you’re here. And a Soul Shine review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning their delicious brunch! This place serves up some of the best food you’ll find in the area – even in all of Costa Rica. Authentic menu items such as shakshuka, Gypsy King, falafels and avocado toast are all served hot and fresh with crispy salad and yummy tapas on the side. The fresh bread is served warm and melts in your mouth! Soul Shine has everything you need for a perfect stay in the Playa Avellanas/Playa Negra area – comfortable rooms, attentive hosts, amazing food and close to the beach and restaurants. We loved our stay at Mikado Lodge! It is an incredible property in the middle of the jungle. The room and deck were lovely as you feel like you are in the tree canopy with the sounds of howler monkeys, cicadas, and views of deer and so many species of birds. Bring your binoculars! We enjoyed the pool time, the little trail on site, and the troup of monkeys that came swinging through the trees through in the morning. Aside from the beauty of the nature, everything is just so polished and well-taken care of. It is clear that a lot of thought and time has gone into the design and care of this boutique hotel. The owner, Lolo, was a gracious and accommodating host. She whipped up some delicious meals and was so sweet with our one year old. Playa Avellana is close by so you can go from jungle to beach in about 15 minutes! We would definitely stay there again.

The hotel is modern and very new. The room was small for the 3 of us, but OK for two nights. The beds were comfortable. It's pricey for the lack of facilities, but its well located near many restaurants and coffee shops and walking distance to the beach. They were building a small pool which will be a bonus when ready. They don't offer breakfast on Monday, but in exchange they washed our clothes, a nice gesture, and will ensure to warn people about this on the website.

While the rest of the hotels/resorts are basically cheaply made wooden shacks with tin roofs, this one is real brick/mortar built to the highest standard. Everything is new, very well made and exceptionally clean. There’s a communal open kitchen with all amenities which is very handy if you don’t wanna go out for every meal. The beach is a short 5min walk and there are many good restaurants all around. The Esquina de Avellanas, an open dining area with multiple excellent open kitchens are just across the street. The lovely young European couple who run this place are the coolest people I’ve met in my trip.

We had a good stay. The place was nice and clean, everything look new. The kitchen was well equipped. The owner was friendly (through whatsapp, we never really met them). All communication from keys to payment happened smoothly through whatsapp.

    The entire property was very nicely laid out, with individual cottages close to the swimming pool but sufficiently secluded for quietness and privacy, and surrounded by trees and shrubs. The cottages are very nicely designed, spacious and well-appointed. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. We enjoyed the relative isolation of Playa Avellana - such a pleasant contrast with Tamarindo! Overall, a very pleasant stay in a lovely property.

    Very nice cabins, lots of privacy, good silent airco, great swimming pool with view of eagles and monkeys, love that there are only a small number of people on the property. Best food we ate in the area. Beautiful beach close by.

    Such a gorgeous hotel! We had had a long road and needed to sleep well - we weren't disappointed. We slept so well and loved the swimming pool from which we could see monkeys in the trees whilst watching the sunset. A lovely romantic dinner also organised by the host! Really recommend it.
