On our roadtrip to Botswana we stayed at Marula Cottage Lodge for three nights in total (two on the way to Botswana and one on the way back to the Airport in Johannesburg). We highly recommend staying with Monika and Dave! The Lodge is located in a beautiful quiet area near Thabazimbi. The rooms are comfortable and equipped with everything one could need. We really enjoyed the breakfast and especially the freshly cooked dinners. From the lodge it’s only a short drive to Marakele National Park, which is also worth a visit. Overall we want to thank Monika and Dave for their amazing hospitality, helpful advice and great contribution to our vacation. We hope to be back soon!

The farm was absolutely stunning, views from the chalets is beautiful. I loved how off the grid it is, no stress from normal day life, gives us time away as a family. Plenty of animals to see and encounter. The out door fire pit was lovely on the evening. Kids loved every minute of our time here. The owners were very accommodating and helped in every way they could. Very friendly.

We really liked this secluded and authentic former research station-turned B&B. Naturally there was the odd spider or moth hanging out inside the house but that is completely fine given the location in the bush. We also liked the spaciousness and the amount of ‘lebensraum’, the nice trail near the premises and of course the very friendly owners. Highly recommended.

It is a really unique place. Totally out in the bush so that you can really enjoy the peace and nature. We stayed in the Shack which was a wonderful experience. A cottage on stilts with a beautiful view and with no neighbors in sight - totally peaceful. What was really spectacular was the Mountain View: you can reserve a swimming pool on the top of a hill with a magnificent view - and enjoy a BBQ there. It is a very nice place to go jogging and walking. I found it particularly enjoyable jogging in the bush amidst giraffes and ostriches. I was also assured by our hosts that it is completely safe to walk and jog around the farm. The hosts are also very friendly and helpful. All in all an absolute pleasure and we really hope to go again. Unusually, the place is a lot better than advertised on their homepage and other marketing materials. As I told our hosts, they don’t do themselves much justice with their current marketing activities.
