We arrived late evening due to delayed flights and were welcomed so warmly by the lady on reception and a warm fire in reception. We were staying for 5 nights and were upgraded to a queen suite with views and wow did that make our stay extra special, seeing those views the next morning was breathtaking and the suite was large and comfortable. The bed was lovely and comfy, the walk in shower was great and the whole hotel was spotless clean. We enjoyed some amazing food in the hotel restaurant both for breakfast and dinner, would certainly recommend eating there. Our stay was outstanding.

Tasmania highlights

The Bay of Fires

Bursting with colour, the Bay of Fires hosts beaches dotted with giant boulders cloaked in striking orange moss and sapphire waters for diving, swimming and snorkelling.

Cutting edge art at MONA

The Museum of Old and New Art offers a feast for the senses. Accompanying the impressive gallery is fine dining, a library, cinema and even an on site winery.

Cradle Mountain National Park

Hiking is the best way to explore the natural beauty of this area, where rugged mountain ranges reflect in the waters of glacial Lake St Clair and snowy peaks appear in winter.

Whitewater rafting on the Derwent River

The Derwent River is a prime spot for adrenalin-packed whitewater rafting. Even beginners can join in on the easier runs, while the pros can try out the fast-moving waters to test their skills.

FAQs about hotels in Tasmania

Laidback Island of Incredible Landscapes

Perhaps most famous for the deceptively cute-looking Tasmanian devil, tranquil Tassie, as it’s affectionately known, boasts some of Australia’s most impressive landscapes.

Most 5-star Tasmanian hotels are in its historic capital Hobart, a beautiful city cascading down slopes towards the sea. Its highest points offer far-reaching views towards the bay’s lush islands and headlands. The furthest headland shelters Port Arthur, a former convict colony touted as Australia’s answer to Alcatraz.

Just outside the capital is Richmond, home of Australia’s oldest bridge. To the north-east is Swansea, across Great Oyster Bay from the Freycinet Peninsula, site of stunning Wineglass Bay.

Bicheno has a sweeping, sandy beach, while St Helens beach further north is protected by land outcrops that are birdlife havens. To its west Launceston features the large Queen Victoria Museum and beautiful Cataract Gorge. It is also the gateway to the north coast resorts where many cheap hotels in Tasmania are located and available to book on Booking.com.

One such resort is Devonport, the arrival point for ferries from Melbourne. Burnie also has a port, and is linked by a coastal road to Stanley whose narrow promontory ends in a rock called The Nut. South is wonderful Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, and to its west is the sleepy town of Strahan whose backdrop is the mountains covering south-western Tasmania.

We have one of the LOFT studio (with sitting, kitchen, and bathroom / toilet below and the bed with another TV & air-cond/heater up-stair), and it was the best accommodation of our trip. The room is perfectly clean, the kitchen is well equipped with all sort of drinks (sparkling water, soft drink, juice, gin, whisky, vodka, wine...coffee, tea...even a traveller adapter and Panadol!!! - all at a price). The choice of movies (NEW and old) is fantastic - it will takes at least 10 days to finish with 24 hours continuous watching! In the bathroom, all towers are doubles (like for 4 persons, though it's a room for 2). At the ground floor are the lounge, bar, restaurant, and cafe (the breakfast was nice! & the manager a very easy going friendly person) and a big under-covered courtyard with lots of tables & chairs - there is also an art gallery. The location of the hotel is PERFECT for me, as my trip to Hobart is to try some nice foods around and take some photos. Also there is complementary valet parking for our car and was there ready in the morning when we check out - THANK YOU, GUYS!

Clean, easy design and laid out, comfortable, access to all amenities. Reception provided all information and was very helpful. Staff in the dining room always smiling and were happy to assist and the chef /s were excellent (many meals here) the cleaners were very friendly and were very personable -even though they were busy with the tour bus rooms. It looked like everyone was happy in their role and wanted to be on site. All up couldn’t as for a better team. We felt very welcome.

Cataract gorge + CBD that's all.

Cataract gorge + CBD that's all. Surprising to find road signs are so detailed/informative and clearly, so many lovely galleries/museums to explore but maximum 2 days should be enought for everything. Don't forget the suspension bridge! The themes park & lift chair seems unnecessary unless if you really eager to (long waiting queue unavoidable).

St Helen's is a great place to explore the Bay of Fires.

St Helen's is a great place to explore the Bay of Fires. One night wasn't enough as we would have loved to do some of the walks out of Binnalong Bay as well as enjoy some time down at the beach. The sand is like being at Whitehaven, and the rocks and colour of the water like being on a tropical island. The town itself has plenty of places to eat, 2 x IGA's and found this most amazing place for breakfast. So much food and yet so reasonably priced. We will be back.

What a spectacular place.

What a spectacular place. Starts with a vast car park and convenient shuttle bus to take you to any of the walking trails available. The trails are well maintained and offer stunning views of the lake and Cradle Mountain. We did the Dove lake circuit and it was mostly easy except for a short hilly section that didn’t last too long. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed the Wineglass Bay loop hike in Freycinet National Park. It was close to the weekend (Friday) so probably many more people, but we had a great time looking for wildlife and enjoying the natural surroundings. We opted for the Holiday Vehicle Pass, which was good for four weeks in Tasmania even though we were only staying a week. We spent a couple of days at Frreycinet and later at Cradle Mountain National Park, which was much less than the cost for daily park entry.
