In the last 7 years I have only been skiing in Bulgaria, although there are beautiful ski areas in Romania as well. Until this year I have only been to Borovets and Bansko. The hotel building was good. The spa was very small and inadequate. The restaurant was very, very bad. All the food was either stale food in the microwave or ready-made frozen food (pizza). The grilled meat dish had a very bad smell, we couldn't eat it. It was an off-season stay. You shouldn't use the restaurant in off-season stays. Great property decorated with incredible eye for the details and in a very relaxing and beautiful location. The owner was amazing, gave us detailed information about the village and the nice places to visit around as well as prepared unique breakfasts, typical for the Bulgarian cuisine in this region. Shiroka Laka is a traditional Rhodope Mountain village that has preserved some of the most beautiful Bulgarian traditions. It is in the heart of the mountain surrounded by woods of pine trees. There you can see traditional bulgarian house and enjoy delicious food. If you want a peaceful and relaxing vacation in the heart of Rhodope Mountains this is the place to be. Don't go on Feb school holidays - it's too crowded, however we went to Pamporovo for last 7 years almost every year, always great balance of service, nature, prices.
