Amazing property with a wonderful view of the sunset. We had a large room, everything was very clean, staff very friendly. The food in the restaurant a few steps away was great. Breakfast at the pool was good, too. The lodge is actually even nicer in reality than shown in the photos. We needed about 35min. by car to get to the airport. We would return any time.

Awesome property with reasonable access down a dirt road. The dirt road is in good shape. This is a super quiet spot, with tons of hummingbirds and pretty decent fly fishing for small rainbow trout in the nearby river. The actual accommodations are cosy and a cool vibe for being up in the jungle. We were given materials to start our own fire, which was a little tricky given the dampness of the wood, it was definitely an awesome experience and made an Already cosy stay even better. The gentleman that runs The Place was incredibly kind and attentive, and made us an excellent dinner and breakfast.

We loved our 2 night stay at the Trogon lodge. The location was absolutely stunning. The lodge is nestled into the cloud forest, next to a small river that provides a constant background sound that is very soothing. The gardens are spectacular and it was a great pleasure to wander around, look at the flowers, watch the hummingbirds hover or sit in one of the many chairs with a book. Even though it rained a lot it did not dampen our spirits. The room was a good size comfortable and very cozy. It does get cold here at night and we had to use the space heater a few times. The bed was absolutely the most comfortable hotel bed I slept in and as a bonus they brought a hot water bottle in the evening which was a very nice touch. The breakfast and dinner at the restaurant were great and the staff was wonderful - friendly and attentive and put up with our broken Spanish. The property has self-guided hiking trails to explore that are well maintained and offers guided bird-watching tours at an additional cost. We took two and the guides were very knowledgeable and showed us wonderful birds and other small wildlife. We loved how relaxing and peaceful the entire experience was. We can highly recommend this place and still think about our stay often. (We did see the quetzal and it was absolutely stunning)

We had a really nice time at Mirador de Quetzales. The cabins are so cute & cozy and there is so much birdlife all around the property (we would see hummingbirds from our bed). It's a beautiful place to relax for a while and just enjoy the views, birds and bees all around. They easily organised tours and the food was great (we are vegan and they made some meals off menu for us and all were fantastic).

Lots of reviews say not to spend too long in san jose as there is nothing to do. But i disagree. I spent 5 nights there and found lots of places to see.. visit.. eat at ..different neighbourhoods. There are free walking tours in the city that give you lots of information, lots of museums, lots of shops, lots of day trips nearby, lots of coffee tours nearby, lots of pubs to crawl and lots of costa rican hospitality!

Vista Canyon Inns was highly recommended by my Doctor and they did not disappoint me. Mr. Dr. and the hospital were minutes away and the hotel arranged all my transportation. Rivas is a great location to base yourself.

Rivas is a great location to base yourself. It's easily reachable from San Jose via good quality roads. Rivas has a great selection of national parks to visit, plenty of local restaurants and other attractions to visit and keep you busy. Additionally, it is close enough to the East coast to be a great base for day trips. We travelled to both Dominical and Uvita in under two hours. This puts a large number of other national parks within easy reach.

It feels safe, even at night to walk around. lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Traffic is very heavy though and you have to pay attention crossing the street. Feels like an upper class neighborhood that is fairly well kept up. Also on the bus line and have never had a problem getting an Uber there.

The city itself has few tourist attractions. We loved the National Museum, especially the butterfly room. One day is probably sufficient to see the main attractions, but it's worthwhile to stay a little bit longer. There are other attractions outside the city, but you need to make on-line reservations ahead of time.
