Their hospitality is the highlight of the place, despite the late check-in we had due to our work schedule, they welcomed us personally when we arrived and prepared us an incredible hot bath at the garden. We had bad luck running into cloudy and rainy days when we were there, but they recommended us places to visit that suit this weather the best, so that we didn’t get affected much. The apartment was clean and cozy, and the kitchen was fully-equipped which made it easy for us to make some simple meals. Elciego is a small pueblo on the border of Rioja and Basque region. Everyone speaks Spanish and some English. The pueblo is beautiful, quiet and has plenty of wineries on its surroundings. We walked into Elciego looking to find some local shops and a few bars/ restaurants, but like many other similar villages there weren't many of either! Nice to walk around but very sleepy. Only fourty five minutes from ferry port of Bilbao, away from city in national park area so very convenient for early morning sailings or late evening arrivals. Only 5 minutes off the motorway so quick and easy to travel and find hotel in small town. Underground parking safe and secure but only 4 or 5 places available.
