FAQs about hotels in Andalucía

Pulsating with History and Tradition

Resounding with flamenco, the fabulous Spanish region of Andalusia (or Andalucía) has world-class attractions, wonderful scenery and welcoming beaches.

Some of the best Andalusia hotels are in Costa del Sol resorts including Nerja and glitzy Marbella, neighbour of exclusive Puerto Banús. Nearby is Málaga, Picasso’s city with relics of its Roman past.

Moorish influences have also left magnificent marks. Formerly a mosque, the incredible Córdoba Mezquita is now a cathedral. Against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Alhambra is a former sultans’ residence looking down on lovely Granada, home to some romantic Andalucia hotels and apartments on Booking.com.

You can ski in the Sierra Nevada, and also in mountains by Aracena north of Seville, the region’s sun-drenched capital with a gigantic Gothic cathedral and amazing architecture in Plaza de España. It also has a ring where controversial bullfighting occurs.

Its nearest beaches are on the Costa de la Luz, between Isla Canela (by Portugal) and Tarifa. Nearby is Algeciras, across the bay from Gibraltar. Other popular Andalusia beaches are in Costa de Almería resorts including Roquetas de Mar and Mojacar.

Inland, on a steep escarpment, Arcos de la Frontera, is one of the White Villages of Andalusia. Nearby is Jerez, home of sherry. To the east is Ronda with its high bridge spanning a deep gorge.

Málaga is an absolutely wonderful city that instantly won our hearts. The food was incredible—fresh, flavorful, and full of variety, with countless restaurants and tapas bars to enjoy. Getting around was effortless thanks to the excellent transport system, making it easy to explore every corner of the city. The climate was perfect, offering sunny, pleasant days that made walking around and discovering new places a joy. Above all, the vibrant atmosphere and welcoming vibe made the experience truly memorable. We loved every moment in Málaga and can’t wait to return.

Granada is a city where history and atmosphere blend in a unique way. The Alhambra, rising above the city, still reflects the beauty of the Nasrid period in its palaces, courtyards and gardens. Below it, the Albaicín offers narrow lanes, white houses and unforgettable viewpoints. The centre is lively, with markets, cafés and landmarks like the Cathedral and the Royal Chapel. Granada is welcoming, full of character, and perfect to explore on foot.

Often missed by tourists who flock instead to Sevilla and Granada, Córdoba is definitely worth at least a 2-night stay. It feels more Spanish somehow. The Mezquita (mosque cathedral) is so unique and beautiful, and rivals most historic buildings we have seen in 30+ years of international travel! If you stay in the old quarter, it is easy to walk to most sites, restaurants, shops, plazas, and the river.

The front was less lively than other resorts, but I don't want loads of British pubs and junk food eateries anyway, so a more relaxing experience. The old town is one of the best in Spain, with many narrow streets crammed with shops and restaurants. The town of Estepona is about an hour away on a bus, another nice town and front. If you want more livelier places, then Fuengirola is over an hour's away on a bus. You can get a boat to more upmarket Puerto Banus for around 20e return

The location of the town, famously straddling a deep gorge, lends astonishing views from every aspect. The mountainous backdrop and olive groves beneath, add to the picturesque location. The historical centre itself is completely charming, and visitors can enjoy palaces, churches, museums including the old bullring, and Arab architectural sites as well as the town’s natural geological features. There are also plenty of restaurants, bars and coffee shops as well as the usual souvenir shops and some more unusual artisanal products.

Beautiful city but the old town is perfect for sightseeing,...

Beautiful city but the old town is perfect for sightseeing, walking around the cobbled streets and enjoying traditional sherry tasting and tapas. I would highly recommend the Tabanco El Pasaje bar. It is very small and quirky with a very warm welcome with fantastic authentic flamenco every day - do not miss this. I would also recommend Las Banderillas for an authentic Spanish bar with a warm welcome for sherry and tapas. Unfortunatley, I would not recommend La kastiza. We went to eat on a weekend night, we found a table outside - yes it was exceptionally busy but numerous Spanish customers were seated after us and they were served before us so we decided to leave and eat elswhere. The dancing horses at the equestrian school were breathtaking. A good few hours walking around the house, museum, stables where you can interact with some of the horses and of course the show! Tio Pepe is another must, fantastic guide and you learn a lot about the history of Tio Pepe and how they make the different flavours. The autograph museum is brilliant & the shop prices are actually really good value. If you want to hire a motorbike or moped, I would highly recommend GCBIKERENTAL - very modern bikes at a reasonable price and the owners are very nice and helpful. It is only approximately a 20 minute drive from Jerez airport to the old town and to the Circuito de Jerez from the old town it is also only approximately 20 minutes. If you like culture, tapas, sherry and winter sun - this is the place to visit.

It's a fun town with little or no trouble.

It's a fun town with little or no trouble. The first thing you notice when you arrive is how clean the town is with workers constantly keeping it clean. There are local and eclectic bars and restaurants along the front and the back streets which are well worth exploring. The transport network of buses trains ferries and taxis mean you can also explore the wider area of southern Spain. Don't waste the opportunity.!!! I must also add a personal thank you to the medical team at the local A&E unit who swifty and professionally dealt with a health issue i had the last time i was there. Finally the Mayor and her team need to be congratulated for keeping Fuengirola as a safe and happy place to visit.
