Great place to stay when you are in the beautiful Cervera del Río Alhama. Gonzalo received me personally and friendly, explained everything really well. The location is superb, on the edge of the old center and that means close to the new part of town. Extensive breakfast.

Everything! Asuncion and Javier were so welcoming. We only stayed one night to break our journey home from France. The hotel is just perfect and very stylish as was our bedroom. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The bathroom was lovely. We didn't use the garden, but I could imagine it would be fab on a summer day for a barbecue. Breakfast was excellent, and nothing was too much trouble. I even had a cup of Twinings English Breakfast tea. We are planning a return, possibly next year, and will stay longer than one night.

FAQs about hotels in La Rioja

A Land of Sun and Wine

Best known for its delicious quality wine, La Rioja is a region in northern Spain featuring over 500 wineries, beautiful nature and a variety of cultural attractions. From dinosaur remains through to hot springs relaxation and the pilgrim route of Saint James, La Rioja truly has it all!

Start your journey at the region’s capital, Logroño, a city fantastically preserved since the Middle Ages and an important part of the Santiago de Compostela Pilgrim’s Route. Stop by its unique taperias, which often specialise in just one type of tapas but offer a wide choice of local wine to accompany your meal.

From there you can travel north to Haro, most famous for its annual wine festival, during which a wine battle is held and wine streams down thousands of throats as well as thousands of tops. To rest after all that fun, make your way towards Arnedillo, a charming spa town, where you can lay your head down and enjoy hot springs and mud treatments.

La Rioja is a region with plenty to see and do. You can wander the streets of picturesque towns full of history, follow wine routes to learn about winemaking or enjoy open spaces of high mountains and almost lunar landscapes.

Booking.com can help you find the best hotels, whether boutique or luxury, to make your stay in La Rioja a perfect experience.

This was our second visit to Hotel Palacio Tondon in less than two months. This hotel is in an excellent location to visit the various bodegas in and around the Rioja. The staff are helpful, friendly and so accommodating. Dinner in the Hotel Restaurant was excellent as was breakfast. We have to mention Borja, the young maître d’hôtel who was professional, informative and charming. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated, incorporating the old with a gentle modern take .. As one can see from my review, I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. Candace Louw

The service was good and again the staff were so friendly and helpful. We stayed here on our way to the ferry in Bilbao and we will definitely stay there again and would most definitely recommend it to other travellers . It is definitely excellent value for money. Genuinely warm welcome. Arrived just in time for a lovely lunch with local traditional ingredients. Staff could not have been nicer. Great room: no frills but all one needs to be comfortable. Peace. Quiet. Impressive natural surroundings. Contemplative and truly spiritual sanctuary. Enjoyed our attempts at the Valvanera Walking Trail in spite of weather and rain cutting it short on two occasions. Would definitely stay longer another time.

Logrono on a Saturday was packed with party tourists, the bridge into the city center was closed, and police were monitoring the main bridges into the city. Crowds of people refused to even move off the streets to allow me to get to my hotel. Several pounded on the hood of my car, as if I was daring to intrude on their taking over the streets. The police had to escort me into the city to the hotel and even for them, the people did not get out of their way. I am sure there are charming areas to the city, but it is absolutely not a place to drive to and parking is in lots across the bridges, not exactly welcoming to those who wish to stay the night. Maybe take a bus tour - I certainly will not ever go back. I did not even go out to eat anything. As a solo traveler I am not intimidated by big cities, big crowds, etc,. But this is supposed to be a charming small town. Did Rick Steves do a show here? These were not English speaking tourists - mostly Spanish and French.

The Parador was a traditional hotel in an ancient building - the 11th century hospital built for pilgrims. Good rooms, (we had a fantastic view over the square), and traditional restaurant with clean white tablecloths for all diners. Bathroom large and classic, very much to our taste, with large bath, marble floor and marble counter-top, but perhaps will be re-furbed in the coming years. Breakfast excellent, as is usual with paradors - for example, freshly-squeezed orange on tap plus excellent range of cold food. Plus hot food to order. Paradors (100 across Spain) are state-owned and run, so they are all similar in certain aspects. The town centre is historic, mainly traffic-free, and very charming - the outer parts just a normal everyday town. The St James pilgrim route is a very important part of the life of the town.

Interesting city.

Interesting city. The Monastery of Santa María la Real is absolutely extraordinary. The preservation and the organization of the visit is fantastic. The city is full of history and it would take more time to discover the years of stories of tits streets and to share ore time with their people. People are kind and servicial. The geography itself it is quite interesting from a geological perspective. I would go back.

If you want a stunning location, with beautiful scenery,...

If you want a stunning location, with beautiful scenery, wildlife, rivers and rugged, rocky hills, this is it. There are also hot springs that can be used completely free of charge. That is what we came for and so our trip was not a disappointment. Arnedillo itself, is not in the best of shape. It has a lot of shops and restaurants that are closed down, and the few left open at odd hours (10 a.m. to 14:00). So if you want to buy food, you need to be up and out in the morning. As for the restaurants, you will see from the reviews that they are all much the same. The food is OK but the service is appalling. We waited 90 minutes the last time we went. You see people being served before you. There is a noticeable favouritism to locals. As a result we ate out only 3 times. After all, you begin to resent such poor treatment when you are paying handsomely for your dinner! Life is easier for drivers, as there are not many buses and the nearest taxi drivers are in Arnedo. We could only find ONE taxi driver in Arnedo, although I have been told there are 3. The bus timetable is really weird and would have given us a maximum hour at Mercadona to do our shopping. It certainly was no way to get out of town for sightseeing as you risked being stranded and unable to get home.

Several restaurants, hotels and a bar in a small village serving amazing food. It is possible to walk to the wineries at Haro if you are reasonable fit and the foot bridge is open. The roads are fairly quiet and getting around by car is easy . Public transport is very limited. Taxis are busy at night time. There are no shops in the village but there is a large supermarket at Haro.

Haro is the historical heart of La Rioja; it is the capital...

Haro is the historical heart of La Rioja; it is the capital of the region though it is substantially smaller than Logrono, another popular stop in Rioja. If you love wine and/or the outdoors, there are ample opportunities for both. There is a concentration of excellent wineries where you can show up to taste or reserve a tour to see the bodega (what wineries are called in Rioja). There are beautiful mountains near town and trails start in town for either hiking or mountain biking. The old part of Haro is small and packed with some very good restaurants for pintxos (tapas) or a full dinner. The town is very walkable. There is frequent bus service from Bilbao or Logrono. Roots, a wine and tapas bar, has a small but lovely selection of tapas and an excellent wine list. The staff is very knowledgeable about not only Rioja wines but wines from around the world. Though the list is predominately Spanish, they have wines from other regions, both in and outside of Spain. Haro is small charming wine heavyweight that presents the best that Rioja has to offer: beautiful wine, great food, and scenery.
