Saint Brieuc is a lovely town in this part of Brittany.

Saint Brieuc is a lovely town in this part of Brittany. It's big enough to have a great selection of restaurants, bars and cafes. Hotels too. Yet, it's small enough you can get out of it into the lovely Breton countryside easily enough. Not overtly touristic, but there are plenty of nice places around to visit and cycle to. A walk down to Le Legue through the Parc de la Vallée de Gouédic was a lovely start to the day. Within a short drive you can get to Binic and Paimpol, or the other direction to the magnificent beaches at Val Andre.

The staff were friendly and bilingual. The site was quiet. It is well positioned for walks along the headland plus excursions into the city to the south and to the beaches and villages to the north. Some of the rooms including ours were in separate blocks, Thankfully there was no rain or high wind when we stayed there. The bedroom was small and cramped and not what one would expect of a four-star hotel. There was only one chair for two people. Limited coffee facility One Cup one small cup no refills of coffee or cream. The safe was small and difficult to access on the floor. What we thought was a fridge / mini bar was in fact a fuse cupboard. There was advertised a swimming pool and spa, yet this small feature was not part of the price as hotel guests had to pay extra. The restaurant did not have reserved places for hotel guests and appeared to be fully booked on the Saturday.

Our check in was fast and easy and the staff were friendly and helpful. We much appreciated the late check out as this reduced the time we would have to wait at the car ferry. We enjoyed the variety of food available at breakfast, particularly the wonderful fresh French bread. Unfortunately our night stop didn't allow us to explore St Brieuc, but the location served our purpose well and the drive to the port at St Malo was fast and easy.

Paid for a swimming pool all week like the family in the next property on the same complex,but use was very limited for us and not the other family in their pool. Thought we had booked one property only to be told that we had not. Three properties in same complex(confusing if you do not know this when booking) 17, 17a and 17b

We approached from the south and we for a lovely walk along...

We approached from the south and we for a lovely walk along the beach at Bout des Ville then for drink and dinner down by the yacht haven under the big N12 road bridge. We loved it and will use it as a stop off point, en route to Roscoff again.

We enjoyed our visit to Binic-and then the Cote de Granit...

We enjoyed our visit to Binic-and then the Cote de Granit rose taking the coastal road from Lannion to Corniche Bretonne--we ate in Binic twice Plerin three times and also in St Quay Portrieux. We have never visited northern France or Brittany and the standard of food and welcome for us was excellent. Once we got use to the road systems we were able to get round Plerin and St Brieuc well and the signs were clear and in the right place.

Hillion is small, nothing special.

Hillion is small, nothing special. It has a bakery and 2 small restaurants (one crepery). The best 'village" for some better beaches, restaurants, terraces and views is Pleneuf-val-Andre, about 20-25 minute drive.

My visit to St Brieuc was to attend a football tournament in Ploufragen. Having visited prior to covid I was aware of the town hence return visit. As a non driver I am happy to walk into old town and down to harbour. Even as a solo,pensioner traveller walking from town to hotel location(station)late at night felt safe,unlike uk !
