Chose this location solely on the basis of internet search - and it exceeded our expectations. Lovely old coaching inn in a quiet village. We were allocated one of the newly refurbished guest rooms - which surely equalled a 5-Star hotel! Excellent evening meals in relaxed pub setting - although we could have sat in the separate restaurant with its classy decor. Staff all very friendly and helpful - including the nice lady on reception who went to the trouble of typing out her suggested itinerary for our day of exploring some of the area! Would strongly recommend.

The shower tank and room space are awsome, also had the ironing tools in the room, this is important to business people to live with. I arrived almost 10pm because traffic delays and it was frozen outside to walk to hotel from train station according no taxi available; however the lady in reception was so warm to guide me where can still get some food and cash out machines; I have to say i am really satisfied with three swans.

The hotel someone gets a low rating but I booked a single room which they upgraded to a double for free. It's super clean and modern. Comfy bed with a tv that actually works...you can beam to TV as its a smart one to mirror your phone and has access to Netflix and amazon prime etc. Staff are friendly...it's a two star I think hotel but is probably better than most four or five stars that I've stayed in.

Leicester Cathedral and the excellent Richard III Visitor's Centre are the highlights. The central retail area has lost the character I remember from the 1950's and the famous market is being restored. However, if you look up, you can see the building features from Leicester's prosperous heyday.

We had dinner at pizzeria inferno, it was really the highlight. Service was great and had some seafood linguini that I am still thinking about, a week on. The town itself is as unremarkable as any town in the midlands. The current politics' events had it also covered in Union Jacks and St. George's Crosses. If that's your thing, you are in for a treat. No wonder Frodo and Sam preferred to walk for months into Mordor, to get out of the shire.

My favorite place was Saint Mary's Church (Attention: only open from 12 to 2!!) with the monument of Wycliffe, the painings and its very special atmosphere. The exposition in HIGH POINT is very interesting too because of Wycliffe. I made a nice walk along the river Swift where Wycliffes bones have been burnt about 600 years ago. When you stay at Grey Hound Inn (with its great history) eating doesn't need te be a problem. They have everything for reasonable prices.

Melton Mowbray is a pretty market town with a lot going for it in terms of shopping and markets, good rail links, a beautiful parish church, a lovely park by the river, and much in the way of community activities and clubs. The people a friendly. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the village of Scalford, where we stayed is beautiful too. The pub was a lovely place to stay and we felt well looked after, special even, in a beautifully presented pub building. There are lovely towns, historical buildings and parklands and pretty towns and places of interest in the surrounding areas. Lots of history here.
