- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 1,036 reviewsIf you've ever dreamt of being in a Jane Austen- or James Ivory-movie go there!!! It is very beautiful. An English country mansion like from a book. It is very well kept and the rooms, especially the drawing room, just marvelous. Garden with huge old trees... Owls calling in the night... so romantic! No complaints about food or else, was tasty. Staff friendly. One comment: It is very popular for celebrations/ weddings etc. Thus if you go in the summer and the weekend, expect that there might be an event taking place ;-)Guest review bySimoneGermany

Plenty of places to eat and drink.
Plenty of places to eat and drink. Interesting shops , especially the large bookshop at the old station. We played golf at Alnwick Castle Golf Club and were made very welcome, lovely course and new clubhouse with fantastic views. Lovely coastline with fantastic beaches nearby & several castles to visit .Guest review byNeedhamUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Hexham itself is a lovely little town with some nice walks and interesting architecture. There are plenty of options for food and we opted for Stalida, a greek restaurant, which was very good. We stayed near Hexham to explore Hadrian's wall so I thoroughly recommend visiting Vindolanda - you gain access to the main site and a Roman museum for a good price (can do both over 2 days with the saver ticket). Chesters Roman fort is also worth a visit, especially if you are a member of English Heritage as it's then free! It's worth walking along some of the wall and we found it was easy to do this from Housesteads - it's a pleasant walk from there to the old Sycamore Gap, minus a tree now of course. Bellingham waterfall at Hareshaw Linn is also a great walk, the waterfall was larger and more spectacular than we expected.Guest review byMelanieUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Great location for discovering the east coast, if you like fish and chips your in for a treat, there is also pub food but a little expensive, the 4 days we were there we visited Alnwick gardens, the holy islands and Bamburgh castle al with in easy reach,Guest review byNigelUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Great staff, excellent facilities and set in wonderful grounds, might be a bit isolated for some but for us it was an added bonus. Food was excellent, a buffet style breakfast but poached eggs cooked to order were brilliant and the one evening meal we ate in the restaurant did not disappoint. The spa area was immaculately clean and is well set out with a great steam room and more than adequate sauna, would have booked a treatment but our agenda did not allow. The main car park is some distance away and at the bottom of a steep hill, there is a drop off point and blue badge parking at the entrance but would advise booking this space if it is essential to you. All in all a great experience and likely to book again if we revisit the area.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Wonderful town; it even has a bank!
Wonderful town; it even has a bank! Plus excellent shopping, all the outlets I like. In lovely setting with River Wansdyke through it. Lots of pretty old buildings with history attached. And near the coast, the Cheviots, and NT CragsideGuest review byLisaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Great location for visiting many castles and beautiful gardens. Cragside is a must see location. Also Ford and Etal, especially the heavy horses. Bamburgh is very picturesque with a very peaceful church and amazing castle which is run very well and is great to visit, amazing views and fantastic sand dunes. Walled garden and cafe in the middle of Bamburgh is a lovely place to spend time with the Grace Darling museum next door there are also lovely small independent shops . All perfect for a needed break away. Thank you Bamburgh.Guest review byMartinUnited Kingdom - 10.0
I walked from Cresswell to Berwick Upon Tweed.
I walked from Cresswell to Berwick Upon Tweed. It was a charity walk in aid of Christie Hospital in Manchester. So I selected to be in Cresswell during the latter part of my walk as it was easy to access my starting and dropping points easily. Wooler is a beautiful town with a lot of nice pubs and restaurents.Guest review byTamaraUnited Kingdom - 10.0
