Modestly sized, warmly decorated, homely and comfortable. Meticulously clean, generously sized rooms. The staff were absolutely outstanding - responsive to the minutest request even though the bar and restaurant were overflowing with visitors on what must have been one of the busiest weekends of the year. Breakfast was super and promptly served. Dinner menu had a broad selection of starters, mains and deserts. Food was really good.

Steve was very friendly and helpful. Our 2 dogs were also made very welcome. The bed was extra large and very comfortable. There are 2 pubs nearby or travelling time to Penrith would be around 15 mins.

Penrith is a great place to either explore itself, or as a base for the rest of the lake district. Public transport is easy and accessible. There are lots of traditional shops and plenty of places to eat or drink.

2 days are enough time to explore , we also visited Keswick which wasn’t that far away , more than 2 days would of been too much , as it is a small lovely place , and it was November with rain , so more restricted, the lake was flooded in a certain area, but overall a lovely weekend break ,

A short walk from this wonderful village is Lowther Castle and estate. Great walking from this village - you can walk over to Pooley Bridge over the fells - just brilliant. Two great pubs in the village and an outdoor public swimming pool. Really great place to stay.

Castle was lovely for a walk around the grounds as inside closed.bus service from village was good but not very frequent.boot and shoe was the only pub in the village we found but it did have good food and drink. Quiet village to stay as not much traffic passing through.

You need to approach tbe farm from the South down near the main Penrith Keswick rd. The weather wasn't good during our visit but the decking has a BBQ which would have been fantastic. There's a Lama farm and great Cafe with farm shop just across the main road about a mile away.

Ellonby is a good base to get to Penrith, the northern, central or southern lakes. There is a local restaurant, if its sunny, you can walk to Skelton and sit on the bench outside for a beer, but inside its a very nice gastro restaurant for meals only. The Boot & Shoe is the best local pub which is an 8min drive away and is also very nice.

I feel sorry for the town council.

I feel sorry for the town council. Penrith is very much a "gateway to the Lake District" so it gets very busy, especially in the middle of summer and coping with demands for accessibility and parking in a very old town is always going to be a problem. It really is a lovely town but this country has an aging population and I suggest that Penrith council really needs to think hard about the needs of it's aging residents and disabled visitors. There's a VERY sparse amount of parking dedicated to disabled travellers; the pavements are uneven and many are not wide enough to cope with a wheelchair. We stayed at and ate at Foundry 34 and the nearby chippie. Foundry 34 was trying to appeal to a younger crowd and although the food was fine, I felt it was expensive. The chippie was excellent but I was surprised how early it closed.

Absolutely fantastic town with something to do for everyone.

Absolutely fantastic town with something to do for everyone. The cruise trip is definitely worth the money would highly recommend. The crown inn was beautiful and the breakfast was one of the best I’ve ever had. The small shops were full of character and sold practically everything.

The local store was warm and friendly and for a village store exceptionally well stocked. The Queen's head across the road charged £23 for two drinks then at 9pm called it quits for the evening and hurried us up to leave, cleaning around us, cashing up then setting up for breakfast. Doors slammed and bolted by 9.45pm. Woken early by dog walkers enjoying the village.
