Fantastic stay for our family of 4, at the Royal Oak. We stayed in the upstairs suite, which is a recent and very modern loft conversion with essentially a double bedroom plus small landing with seating and bathroom. Owners Sarah and Dave very welcoming and helpful. Clean and immaculate throughout. The bedroom is spacious enough to add in a couple of low single beds under the sloped side ceilings, so fitted our young family well. Fast WiFi available and tea/coffee making. Decent continental i.e. pasrtries, cereal, toast and fruit breakfast provided in the back room downstairs. We also stayed for dinner and the steak and ale pie was great. Good old style pub and beer incl ale selection. Easy parking in the pub at park. Room a little cold given the time of year but there is an electric heater and heated floor so enough. Great view of the hill for adventurous climbers unlike us! We were travelling through while visiting nearby Hay on Wye and so this was an ideal stay about 20 mins out, not too close and beautiful countryside. Also one of the few family rooms we could find near to Hay with good reviews, which are well deserved. Would recommend, thanks Sarah and Dave.

The front of house staff (Julien and Ffion) were very friendly and incredibly helpful. The rooms had all been refurnished a couple of years ago and the room I stayed in was excellent. I ate in the Inn on the Saturday night and had breakfast on the Sunday morning. Both were top quality. The starters and main meals in the restaurant had recommended wines on the menu, which was a nice touch. I had the smoked eel salad followed by the skate.

Drovers Rest is lovely! we stayed in The Cart House which was really spacious, well appointed and so warm! Unfortunately the weather meant we couldn't partake in a farm walk but the fact that it was even an option was wonderful! We had everything we needed, the beds were comfortable and the water was hot! We cooked for the two nights we were there and had everything we needed. There is WiFi, games, books and various streaming services on hand if needed. The blackout blinds are a great touch and it is honestly so quiet! Marta was in contact and gave us all the information we needed.

An ok town, shame as bit of a reflection of the current state of affairs in most British towns these days. Was once I’m sure a bustling and thriving market town. Very handy for walking to the brilliant Powis castle and the local steam train railway too. A few bars and restaurants also.
