Host and staff all very helpful and accommodating during our stay. The family room was very clean, lovely decor, cozy beds and bathroom all good..all made the more welcoming by the homemade cookies in the room. We had dinner and breakfast at the Inn, all of which was first class (product and cooking), against the tranquil setting of the open fire. Overall , fully recommend a weekend away or overnight stay (as we did) in the Compasses Inn , all the comfort, quality and warmth one requires when looking for a relaxing stay.

I booked out this hotel for family and friends to stay in following my wedding. The hotel staff were incredibly helpful in the booking process and did everything they could to ensure our stay was as comfortable as possible. The hotel only offered continental breakfast, but given that we had booked out the whole hotel, they agreed to do a hot breakfast on a pre-order, which was fantastic! Our family and friends also enjoyed the restaurant and bar the evening before, both areas of which are nicely designed and have a nice ambience. Some of the rooms are quite old-fashioned in terms of aesthetics, but The Lansdowne is such an old hotel, and the majority of the hotel has been recently refurbished. This also didn't impact the level of cleanliness and the quality of service, which was great. Also don't be put off by the lack of parking as there is a big car park nearby you can pay and display at, and it's very reasonable. Would recommend The Lansdowne to all looking to stay in Calne!

We loved the location, our free upgraded room to a newly redecorated room with king size bed and the hospitality we received from arrival to departure by the owners. The breakfast was loveky and evening meal superb. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to others. The only sticking point was the lack of on site parking, but there is a long stay car park relatively near.

As a city, Salisbury is very pretty and historic.

As a city, Salisbury is very pretty and historic. The cathedral is definitely worth visiting and is beautiful inside and out. The city has some very attractive Tudor buildings and it is very compact and easy to walk around in. Lots of shops to visit of course, and loads of cafes! There is even a department store... not many of those around these days.. Everything is within walking distance. There are many buses too, which go all over the local area and to Amesbury etc. Very good services by train as well. There is the Stonehenge bus which goes from the railway station if you don't have a car. I ate at Wildwood (Italian) and Pizza Express and other cafes.

Bowood Hotel is set in beautiful countryside and even in midwinter was lovely. The hotel and room were really well decorated and maintained. The christmas party evening was really well organised and the DJ was excellent. There didn't seem to be enough staff in the bar/lounge area in the evening, meaning that the tables were not cleared of afternoon tea things and dirty glasses for 4 hours while we were there. The barman was a little rude and slow. The floor in the Spa was dirty at 11.30am which was surprising. However the breakfast was absolutely delicious, lunch was really good and all staff were helpful on these occasions.

Marlborough has a lot to offer; I would recommend a visit to their cinema, a trip round all the shops, including the charity shops and a stop at Coffi Lab for a drink and cake. It is the perfect location to step out into the Cotswolds and beyond. I may be biased as I was born not for from the town, but the area has everything and the beauty of the countryside unmatchable.

I'd lived there for 30 years, but recently re-located. The town looks to be in decline with some key employers closing down. Wadsworth's brewery, is in the process of being demolished, so a bit of an eyesore. The market square is partly closed to traffic due to a fire in a kebab shop and locals tell me this is impacting in footfall to the town. Sad to see it this way. Great if you like charity shops and Turkish barbers! White Bear pub is still superb though:)

Warminster is a perfect location to see the many sites the area has to offer, the local train station is convenient to Bath, Bristol and Salisbury all worth a visit for a day. The staff were great. The food was excellent. The Oktoberfest on the Friday night was great fun with all the community welcoming us. We were upgraded to an apartment which was very big and the bed was very comfortable for my husband, who is 6ft3". But beware of events at the Castle Combe racing circuit as this can cause a long traffic jam with many visitors all trying to get into the circuit at the same time!

Fieldways is an Edwardian mansion with most of the beautiful original features and some furniture still intact. The person responsible for it was William Richard Brown - a man of means and local renown - who funded the lovely town hall in Trowbridge. Fieldways has a wonderful old world ambience, clean, comfortable rooms with many of the communal areas under used and large parts of the building, not used at all, which is a shame. Do go to see it and enjoy a peaceful stay there before some shark developers grab and destroy the beauty of it forever as they always do. Oh forgot to mention the swimming pool and gym, all under used.
