The breakfast was exceptional. Since it was the eve of the New Year, there was a rich assortment of local desserts that could be enjoyed in winter, and the breakfast menu was varied and delicious. All the staff were friendly, and they provided travel information very kindly and meticulously. The room had high ceilings and was spacious, allowing for a comfortable rest in an antique atmosphere.

FAQs about hotels on Crete

Centuries of History, Days of Sunshine

The largest Greek island, mountainous Crete has stunning beaches, plenty of history and as much or little nightlife as you want. Party town Malia has many bars, clubs and restaurants on its Strip.

Along the coast is the capital Heraklion, a bustling city home to many Crete hotels on the beach, and a Venetian castle guarding its port. Its archaeological museum includes finds from the island’s Minoan era, while just inland are the Roman remains of Knossos.

Also boasting a Venetian castle is Rethymnon, a popular resort with a good number of Crete hotels with private pools on Booking.com. Loggerhead turtles nest in season on the sandy beaches here and at Chania, an important port with an attractive waterfront set against the backdrop of mountains.

On the other side of the island is Aghios Nikolaos, a small fishing town with a picturesque harbour. Just north is Elounda, a popular family resort, and offshore is Spinaloga island, inspiration behind the book ‘The Island’. Matala in the south has a bohemian vibe and intriguing cliff dwellings, while Paleokastro in the east borders Europe’s largest palm forest at Vai.

We could go on and on about magnificent Crete beaches, but whichever resort you choose, you can be almost guaranteed fantastic food and a good helping of sunshine.

Everything!!!😍 To be honest places like this are over our budget,so we saved money for this trip for a while and was a bit concerned if we choose a good accomodation to put our trust in because we did not know the place. But booking this place was the best choice we could make! The hotel itself is really new, clear and elegant from the inside and outside as well. There are many pools so you do not feel the crowd (sometimes we were alone in a whole pool). The beach is literally just around the corner so we were able to spend our whole day there while our room was just few steps away from it. At the beach there were king size beds with baldachin and sunbeds too. There were a toilet and a beach bar nearby to fulfill all of yours needs! Our room was small but it was perfect for us (2 people) and it was well-equipped, we had everything we needed. There was fresh bottled water provided daily and the cleaning ladies did a perfect job! Despite the fact we brought lots of sands in they made our room perfectly clean every single day, huge thank you for them from here as well! Also the rest of the staff were extremly kind, helpful, cheerful and just made our days always :) Thank you as well, I hope my words get back to you, because you are doing an amazing job! We also tried massage here. The hotel provides you a 10 minute free massage and we also add some extra minutes. It was also amazing, we felt incredibly relaxed and calm after it. I definitely recommend you to try it once you are there. We also recieved one romantic dinner next to the beach in the hotel's fine dining restaurant from the hotel. It was an amazing night with a perfect view and incredible dishes! And in the end I would like to emphasize the amazing quality and quantity of food! Everything was freshly made, we had lots of choices and our favourites could be found every day but they also add new dishes to the breakfast and dinner too, so you just could not get bored of it!

TL/DR: the staff was the friendliest I have ever seen. Everything was sparkling clean. The food was great. The all inclusive package is a must have Now a more detailed review: We made a huge mistake by NOT getting the all inclusive pack, and had to go out every day for lunch or dinner. There's a few restaurants within a 15/20 minutes walk, but under a scorching sun that was not worth it. The paid/specialties restaurants in the hotel are too fancy, too expensive and often had to be reserved in advance, so that was not an option. The only one we went to was the one by the beach. The staff was always friendly. Even under a 40/110 degree heat everybody was happy to be there. That made an experience much more agreeable in the entire hotel. At night there would be entertainment in two places. Usually a more cruise ship like dancing or a band playing. And by the pool there would be a more laid back band playing. The whole place felt vibrant and has a 100% family vibe to It. Lots of kids playing in all places. The hotel has a convenience store with basically everything you need. It runs from 8 to 10 every day, and the staff was also super friendly. We would gladly be back, but now with the all inclusive package.

Our family had an absolutely amazing stay at Creta Maris Resort this August. From the very beginning, the experience exceeded our expectations. We were kindly upgraded to a beautiful room with a stunning sea view, which set the tone for a perfect holiday. The entire resort was excellent in every way – the facilities, the cleanliness, the food, and the overall atmosphere made our vacation unforgettable. I especially want to mention Eleni from Customer Relations, who was truly outstanding. She went above and beyond to make our stay special. During our time there, we celebrated my wife’s birthday, and Eleni organized a wonderful dinner with a delicious birthday cake and an incredible view. It was such a thoughtful and memorable touch that meant a lot to us. Thank you to the whole team at Creta Maris Resort for making our family trip so special. We will definitely come back!

We loved every minute of our stay. From the minute we walked in, we loved it. I believe it is the most beautiful reception I have ever seen - the ocean as a backdrop is just picture perfect. The lobby smelled amazing and we were welcomed in the most hospitable manner. The service was outstanding - it was more than the usual friendly and polite service, everyone made us feel welcome and well taken care of. They service we experienced was true hospitality with heart. The breakfast had the most amazing selection. The views all around the resort are incredible - starting from the lobby, to the room, to the pool, we loved that you could see the ocean from almost every angle. Pictures do not do the resort justice - it is so much more stunning in reality. Special thanks to: Elini, Polina, Lia, Aggelena, Xenia And the lovely lady from Bony Fish.

Thanks to the caring team of Grecotel for sunny Greek hospitality! Thanks to their attentive service, tho it was a dream vacation. The rooms are cleaned daily, the area is green, the staff is friendly and always ready to help (after check-out they allowed us to stay in the hotel, including eating in the restaurant and even taking a shower). Such heedful. During the whole week of vacation we received only positive emotions, so we highly recommend choosing this hotel for your vacation! And we want to come back ourselves.

Biggest advantage undoubtably are the efficient, polite, friendly, and always smiling staff. The old town is worth visiting especially during low season, when there is more space and tourists are not jostling for restaurant tables and selfie spots. There are several good restaurants in the old Venetian port, look for places where locals are eating.

We were sadly only here for a quick overnight stay. But during our week in Crete - where we travelled to Chania, Heraklion, and Rethymno - Rethymno was by some margin my favourite destination. Where Chania's historic centre felt as if it had been totally given over to tourism, Rethymno felt more like a substantial town with plenty to explore.

Difficult to judge because we came early in the season when there was a cold wind blowing and not all the places were open. However, there didn't seem to be many places to eat [not a problem for us as there was one excellent place, though would be a problem peak season] . There were a number of apparently abandoned and ill-maintained buildings, which made the place appear less attractive.

The perfect place for peaceful vacation. The city itself is nice but not something extraordinary, but you get the best food in Greece alongside the best beaches in the World! Try Psarropoula, Kakkos and all other beaches in Ferma area. Make beautiful trips to Chryssi Island or Agios Nikolaos (30min), Siteia (45min), Vai, Oropedio Lasithiou etc.

The town is just the right size — not too big.

The town is just the right size — not too big. Its rural and local character really comes through; we even watched goat herders at work just nearby. There’s a good variety of restaurants and several shops. For those with limited mobility, there’s a convenient flat sidewalk running along the beach. If you’re willing to drive a short distance, there are plenty of stunning beaches to choose from depending on the wind direction. It’s an excellent location for beach life and all kinds of water activities. At Paralia Souda, there was also an aid for wheelchair users to get into the water — provided they’re able to transfer into the seat. There’s also lots to do nearby — one tip is to hike up to Saint Paisios Church or visit the nearby mountain villages with their amazing views towards Plakias (see the photo).

Matala is a colorful, beautiful, and lively little town with a great atmosphere. It is perfect for beach days and a good starting point for day trips to nearby museums and archaeological sites. There is a huge selection of good restaurants. It is a good idea to arrive by car if you want to go on lots of trips and be independent. However, there are also bus connections, e.g. to Heraklion.
