She told us everything we needed to know about the island and the easiest ways to get around etc. We were upgraded to a suite with a private pool and it was SO GOOD. I was concerned to begin with as there aren’t many sunbeds around the main pool for the amount of people in the hotel but when we had our own it was perfect!! There was also another very helpful lady who told us it would be 60€ to the port but when she rung she managed to get it down to 40€ which was another nice touch (rather than just telling us that’s what the price was). The views were incredible. Our room had an outdoor hot tub as well as an indoor cave pool. The staff was incredibly kind and professional, and romantically decorated our room for our honeymoon. They were also very accommodating and helpful, and helped us book a professional photoshoot as well as a boat tour. The breakfast was also incredible and they gave us the option of having it delivered to our room to eat on our outdoor sitting area. Fira is a great town full of varied shops and fantastic places to eat. It can be expensive so plan a little extra money for food though! There are plenty of things to do an see in the town and the public transport to other areas of the island are quite frequent and cheap. Oia is stunning, especially at sunset, but in September it felt overrun with cruise ship crowds and influencers. We loved our simple apartment with its incredible views, starry nights, and the local cats and donkeys. Food and wine are excellent but expensive, and swimming isn’t easy without hiring a car or scooter. Glad I booked Imerovigli over Oia or Fira. It was quieter, more affordable, has amazing views and walking distance to great restaurants. Lovely village but getting very busy. Restaurants were excellent and staff in them very polite and attentive. Beautiful and relaxing town with everything you could ask for and still without the noise from clubs until late night like in Thira! Despite being after peak season it was crowded, noisy, traffic jams quite frequent and pricey. We returned after 20 years to discover that it’s not a place for vacation any more. The only downside is the many stairs you need to climb, which can be tiring in the evening after a full day. On the other hand, in the early morning I really enjoyed jogging through the area. Akrotiri is a beautiful town. I definitely recommend visiting the Akrotiri archaeological site, but the entrance fee of 20 euros is honestly way too expensive. A great place to stay as an alternative to Fira, if you are happy to walk into the town for 15 minutes along a beautiful cliff side walk, which is sometimes steep in places and can be very hot!
