This hotel was literally in Sorrento City Centre! The train station was just a 7 min walk if you want to visit Pompeii. We also had a great bakery and supermarket just next door. We had a very comfortable room with a queen size and a twin bed. The rain shower had great pressure and lots of hot water. Air conditioning was excellent as well as WiFi and tv. The staff was very helpful and happily answered any questions we had about how to get around in Pompeii and good restaurants. There was a lovely little garden where we winded down our days with a cocktail prepared in the bar. Breakfast was more than adequate and the bonus was that it was 2 blocks from the train station station and a 15 minute walk from the entrance to the archeological site of Pompeii

FAQs about hotels in Campania

Stunning Scenery and Remarkable Ruins

Wonderful beach resorts, a wealth of history and winding, cliff-hugging roads – these are just a few reasons why Campania is so admired.

Spreading around a bay, the capital Naples is a mix of monumental architecture and narrow streets. Known for pizza and pulsating life night and day, it extends along the coast towards Pozzuoli, site of a Roman amphitheatre and the Phlegrean Fields volcanic area.

The most notorious volcano is of course Vesuvius, whose eruption in 79AD destroyed Pompei and Herculaneum. The ruins of both are an amazing insight into the sophistication of the Romans. Even older are the well-preserved Greek temples at Paestum.

Agropoli sits on a rocky promontory overlooking a beach and harbour, and beautiful Palinuro is at the tip of the Cilento National Park. Other fantastic Campania resorts are on the amazing Amalfi Coast. Ravello, high on a hill, offers stunning coastal views, while Amalfi and Positano cascade down to the sea. Around the peninsula is Sorrento, home to several 5-star Campania hotels, while offshore are the fabulous islands of Capri and Ischia.

Inland Caserta has an impressive Royal Palace with huge gardens, and Avellino nestles in a valley between the port of Salerno and Benevento, site of yet more Roman remains. See Booking.com for an excellent range of apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Campania.

Time at the monastero is everything you might expect for a 5 star resort experience with some notable distinctions. Amazing attention to detail and systems of management, result in a sense of tranquility which is hugely amplified by the monastery setting. This really can't be overstated. The peaceful environment they create here is quite precious. Secondly, having a limited number guests (20), means that there is a sense of privacy missing from some resorts or hotels. Thirdly, the views are literally some of the best photos from our trip. Fourthly, the generosity and warmth of the staff in every area is 100% consistent. A great credit to management. Loved our stay. Obviously not an every holiday option, but a special stay that will be remembered for a very long time.

Kind of "Old style hotel", which cares about their guests. * Very delicious food in evening (half board very recommended) * Very nice and careful staff (esp. restaurant) * Room was clean and well prepared * Quite nights, even as we had the room nearby the street * Very interesting view to the harbor and sea (especially if you travel with kids) * good connection to public transportation (bus to Salerno and other locations at Amalfi coast stops in front of hotel - recommendation is to travel to that area by train (Salerno) without any car * nice walk in the evening to Vietri

A lively city, very different from other parts of Italy. The food was amazing - on every corner you can find high-quality places to eat. It’s great to visit with friends, with a vibrant nightlife, and it felt very safe. I traveled with a friend, both of us women, and we felt comfortable both during the day and at night. I also highly recommend exploring the area around Naples by car.

As I've advised people in the past, if you have the stamina, put aside a whole day or more for a Pompeii experience, and include the Naples Archeological museum and Herculaneum in your trip. Pompei is much larger than you expect it to be, and it only grows in size and wonder as the years continue. This is an enormous exhibit that you can get lost in, and never find a lack of new sights to see. No matter how long you spend there, you'll leave thinking about what you didn't get to see. I also recommend visiting the museum prior to visiting the sites, as the scale, range, and quality of the artifacts in the museum will begin to prepare you for what you are about to see onsite. I won't bother adding pictures, as there are so many already out there that you'll encounter in any effort to prepare for a visit, and they'll never truly express what you will discover with your own eyes.

It´s beautiful, no doubt.

It´s beautiful, no doubt. And I certainly rate it higher than Positano. But it´s so so busy, full of groups, and access is agonisingly slow, the infrastructure being inadequate for the amount of traffic. It feels like a place setup for tourists, which detracts from its natural beauty. I prefer the grittiness of Napoli, which for all its troubles, feels authentically Italian.

No parking. Many steps to get to the piazza and port and not pedestrian safe. Not geared to tourists. Shops for local consumption mostly. Ok for a day or two but traffic in and out is terrible and not a good base for exploring the area. I found the restaurants good but expensive.

A beautiful island with a range of personal experiences that made our vist unique. Everyone we met was so friendly and we enjoyed all of our time on the island. We did find the roads very narrow and different to drive with a hire car. Th thermal pools at Poseidon were outstanding. We visited in mid-October and found that the island was in the process of shutting down for the off season. Despite this, we are now missing the fabulous family run restaurants and quiet hotel. Would love to go back and visit again.

We really wanted to see the archaeological site and stay at Villa Durante. Both places didn't disappoint. We also found good restaurants there. Great town, good home base for other activities in the area, if you're traveling by car. Less touristy than, say, Positano. The town clearly has a life of its own beyond just servicing tourists. We could have stayed longer just to visit more of the restaurants, and do more in the area. We did easy side trips to Paestum, Pompeii, Salerno.
