Good location, close to the beach, but quite a walk with a lot of stairs to the Taormina city, not for elderly or families with young children (better use a shuttle bus). Parking is easy to find on the side of a road. Staff is super friendly and with a lot of insight info. Good breakfast with lots of variety and all is local. Great accomodation!

FAQs about hotels in Sicily

An Island of Intrigue

The largest Italian island, Sicily has long been a place of mystery and intrigue, coveted by civilisations. Its Greek history is most evident at Agrigento whose UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valley of the Temples has amazingly well-preserved Greek temples.

Also important to Greece was Siracusa. Archimedes was born here and there is a theatre and necropolis to explore. However, the most spectacularly located Greek theatre is at Taormina. Set on a hill overlooking the glorious Mediterranean Sea, this theatre points towards Mount Etna smoking away in the distance above Catania. Picturesque Taormina is one of the most popular Sicily resorts and down below there are some wonderful Giardini Naxos hotels on the beach, available on Booking.com.

Another resort boasting some of the best Sicily hotels for families is fabulous Cefalù. Home to a lovely beach, this small town is dramatically located at the foot of a mountain. To the north-west are the Aeolian Islands (also known as the Lipari Islands), volcanic islands with plunging cliffs and secret coves.

Back on the main island, the capital Palermo is a seductive mix of amazing architecture and laidback life. Trapani to the west is known for its salt flats, whereas Messina to the east is where trains drive straight onto the ferry to Reggio Calabria on the Italian mainland.

It is significantly more than a hotel, it is a very large resort, with a completely private beach, a very large swimming pool next to the beach (warning: that swimming pool is not heated, so it was quite cold in May), a Spa complex with a very nice and long indoor (heated) swimming pool, and several also very nice and large spa baths outside (these ones with warm water). The Spa reservation system ensures there are only a few guests at any time, no large crowd, and children aren't authorized in the Spa complex unless the weather is bad. The restaurants were excellent, I particularly recommend to have lunch next to the large outdoor pool, but the other two restaurants and the breakfast are excellent. Very nice room, loved the large private terrace. Everything was top notch. We had a small issue with our shower (rain shower stuck), and it was fixed very promptly. All the staff was super nice. We didn't play golf, but you can use one of the freely available bikes to cycle around the golf course, which is very nice (it is a private complex, so no external car).

Incredible stay! The staff made us feel welcomed and like family, they went above and beyond to cater to our every need. The facilities were impeccable and the thermal pools took away all our stress. The food was fresh, delicious and healthy. The pizza was actually the best we've had in Sicily, we have been travelling around the island so this is a big claim to make! The only problem is we didn't want to leave the accommodation to explore the surrounding area! Internet was great and we were able to get work done.

Returning to Città del Mare after 30 years was pure joy, this time as a mother of four. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, with stunning sea views. The resort is huge, full of beautiful gardens and greenery. Our kids absolutely loved the famous toboggan into the sea, and the pools kept everyone happy. The animation team made sure there were fun, varied programs for all ages. A perfect family holiday - we all enjoyed every moment!

We had a wonderful bike tour the first day through the city through "social bike" with an excellent guide Ava along with a food tasting at the end. The food in Palermo is amazing along with the seafood and the wine, all of it very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend the 2 day trips we took, the first to Mondello Beach about a 1/2 hr bus ride and the second to Cefalu' which is a 40 min train ride and darling, clean town on the sea with cute little shops, a beautiful Duomo and lovely little cafes.

Trapani is a small city which deserves exploring and getting to know. Lots of hidden gems and beautiful sights. The Museum of Optical Illusions is great. Beautiful town, full of life at night. Easily walkable, flat streets. Beach is nice and long, with multiple free areas. It's a gorgeous scene with the huge mountains, and lighthouse at the other end. It is definitely more of a touristy feel, as we went in August. Definitely explore up and down the peninsula, as there's excellent beaches and coves to swim at as well!

Had no wifi on my phone, even when i paid extra to get itWIFI on my phone. Tried to ask people but on one knew where to go. Traffic was terrible where the address was to pick up. So i ended up not making the excurion, and company is not giving me a refund. Also the rest RISTORANTE SABBIE D' ORO charged us $162.00(euro) for a 1 lobster. They stood over us until we order, couldnt speak english and the menu said 18 euros for a one lobster, thought that was a good price. Pressed us with extra stuff we did not want to order, because we could not understand them. Then we go to pay there system was down and couldnt take no visa or MC. Our bill was $350 eros. We had to go to atm machine and they charged us $75 to take money out of machine. BAD EXPERINCE!!!!!! I would suggest not to go there.

We enjoyed Ragusa a great deal.

We enjoyed Ragusa a great deal. Ragusa Superiore, where the hotel is located, was easy to approach by car, which was useful for us and situated across from the street from an impressive cathedral. We enjoyed the walks down to Ragusa Ibla, where we spent two afternoons wandering the narrow streets, enjoying the sites, and were able to take a public bus back up to Ragusa Superiore with little trouble. Staying in the upper part of Ragusa allowed us to experience both parts of this small city. Both parts of Ragusa come alive in the evening when shops re-open, and people head out to dinner. Having coffee or granita in any square is a great treat, as is visiting green spaces, like the garden in Ragusa Ibla.
