- From US$780.93 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 118 reviewsLake Akan is a well conserved nature reservation. It is serene and beautiful. Akan Tsuruga Besso Hinanoza is on a different level. Its the epitome of Japanese hospitality. Technically for the price we paid, it is half board. Almost all F&B is included (except certain expensive sakes). We were offered an extensive range of wines and sake over dinner as part of the dinner package included, and dinner was exquisite. Breakfast was amazing. We had hot steaming Japanese rice with an unlimited serving of salmon roe. There was also grilled fish and lots of side dishes. Onsen in the room was lovely and the outdoor onsen at level 7 is a once in a lifetime experience!Guest review byWEIGANG LOUISSingapore
- From US$461 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,521 reviews+ great location just next to the JR Station + Good size room, standard equipments and amenities for this price range in Japan (very good) + Great breakfast, worth the waiting ( it can get crowded sometimes) + The onsen on the rooftop... The star of this hotel... Fantastic, must try it even if you don't love the onsen atmosphere (yeah, the naked people).Guest review byStefanFrance
- From US$63.75 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 6.4Pleasant - What previous guests thought, 1,536 reviewsactually i've booked the dormitory's room, but as arrived there, the staff said to me that it is too risky for women with no friend stay at dormitory's room, so they changed my room to single room with shower, tv, ac, and above all they did not charge me an additional payment, lucky for me on those day.🥹☺️Guest review byidaJapan
- From US$148.84 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.5Good - What previous guests thought, 306 reviewsIt has a roof top onsen where both male and female can relax together, not many onsen allow family soaking in warm pool together. The best part can view the stars and enjoy the cold breeze on your face while soaking in warm pool. Ideal for family.Guest review byToh PhuiSingapore

City is very pleasant and liveable with wide streets in a grid pattern that make navigating easy. Main attraction was as the main centre for Hokkaido, with day trips to outlying areas (Otaru, Cape Kamui, Yoichi etc) as the real draw card. Sapporo Beer Museum was also excellent.Guest review byMacDonald - 8.0

Hakodate per se is a quaint lite town, whose main attractions can be visited in one day. However, it can serve as a hub for exploring southern Hokkaido as it has all the necessary services. Food is certaiy a plus, particularly seafood, and prices are lower than elsewhere. Also, compared to larger towns on Honshu, it has a frontier-type of vibe.Guest review byArielSlovenia - 10.0

We loved Asahikawa, a very fun little city with a huge variety of bars and restaurants, easy access to local ski resorts, lots to see and do, and just a really fun, friendly vibe. Was a nice change after the hectic pace of Niseko. We will return next year and give ourselves a bit more time to have a really good look around (could do with 7 nights - our stay was 4 nights). Enjoyed the bonus of the winter festival being on during our stay, with spectacular ice sculptures the whole length of the main street, plus a big festival zone with activities, a huge ice stage, and dozens of food vans. We will be back for sure.Guest review byNicholasAustralia - 10.0

We did glass blowing at a great place called Il Ponte - made a glass each to take home! Also spent an afternoon Kayaking nearby at Shioya beach with Max at Sunnyside Up -well worth doing with amazing scenery and even a swim at a beach! Also found a great little place for dinner that locals go to called Summi's Grill in a little back alley near the Sun arcade. Met a couple of locals who go there every day!Guest review byPhilipAustralia - 10.0
We've been twice to Furano.
We've been twice to Furano. It's a wonderfully friendly and relaxed resort. While it's not large by European or American standards, it features fabulously dry powder snow, and great restaurant options at the foot of the slopes and in the adjacent town. The fact that it is small also makes it easy to meet up with friends.Guest review byStephenAustralia - 10.0

Chitose being a small city in Hokkaido is convenient with the new airport just within a short travel time to reach. There are a lot food choices and moderate shopping available within nearby distance.Guest review byTANSingapore - 10.0
Very beautiful and quaint little town.
Very beautiful and quaint little town. Loved the hot foot and hand spas for the public. Views of the lake were amazing and the onsen with the cost of our room was worth it. Better to stay since it is much more beautiful than at Rusutsu Resort area and not that far to go snowboarding.Guest review byKenUnited States - 8.0
Kushiro is a compact city.
Kushiro is a compact city. When I was there in February 2024 the city was fairly quiet. Kushiro is a good place to stay if you are interested in seeing the Red crowned-cranes (Tancho). The Akan International Crane Center is just over an hour away by public bus. It's also possible to travel to the wetlands and the many lakes in the area. The Kushiro City Museum is very good with displays of the natural history, geology and Tancho. There are also wonderful sunsets that can be seen in various parts of the city.Guest review byNeilThailand - 10.0

Most interesting places like Furano, Daisetsuzan and noboribetsu are not close to Sapporo even with self-drive trips. So don’t base your self in Sapporo as it is far from its own airport anyway. Stay in Sapporo if you want to explore its surrounding areas.Guest review byChangAustralia
