It’s a quaint boutique hotel with a very nice ambience. It’s warm and welcoming, good place to go home to after a loooong day of walking. The rooms are nice and cozy. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They also provide some coffee, tea and bread in the lounge area.

Great location and close to many local bars, restaurants and the Main Street. Room was huge by Japan standards, and very clean and space efficient. The bed - most comfortable ever, also for my husband (and he would usually prefer a firmer madress than me. The bathroom, including the spacious bathtub. The dimmer switches everywhere to allow you to have a relaxing ambience, even in the bathroom, and the blackout curtains to help deal with jetlag. The fact that everything was simple but very high quality. We have stayed in both 'fancier' hotels and in places with more stars, but this was so comfortable and hospitable - simple, quality comfort. The staff, excellent English and helpful with everything, including securing us s table at a specific Michelin restaurant we hoped to visit.

The hotel is not a large hotel but it is huge in service levels and provisions. What we liked about the room is that it has everything that any traveller would need - good toiletries, fluffy towels, a range of Japanese teas to be introduced to us with a very thoughtful note on it's respective preparation methods. The bathroom and toilet provisions are top-notched. You'd have thought you were in a five-star hotel bathroom. In terms of space and size of room, of course, don't expect five-star space, but The General's room is comfortable, two single sofas, tv with US-CNN and the local Japanese channels. You can play your own Spotify music through the JBL bluetooth speaker with rich room-filling music. Situated two stops from Kyoto main station, it is just the right place for us. Not too busy/noisy and near enough to access all the important parts of our itinerary via the rail and bus networks. And to top is off, there is access to th executive lounge with afternoon teas and evening cocktails and drinks (including wines, beers, whiskey) and various japanese bites, snacks and cocktail nuts.

    The location was everything!! It's walkable to many major tourist spots like Kiyomizu-dera. Also good for those who wants to get pictures with the Hokan-ji pagoda in the early morning without anyone. The room was cute and have everything you need for your stay. Plus the staffs were so super friendly, helpful and good in English. I will definitely choose this hotel again for the next visit in Kyoto.

    Japan is not the old Japan back 10 years ago. I want to see people speak Japanese to me instead of Chinese or English. Unfortunately, too many foreigners workers working on convenience stores etc. Although overcrowded everywhere, people are polite and in good manners that I see. Overall, we enjoy the trip very much! Will come back again because still lots of places that I want to visit or visit again!

    Miyazu which includes Amanohashidate, is one of three natural sites in Japan. The land bridge spans across the sea is fun to view from the observation points (on both sides) and you can actually bike (20 minutes) or walk (50 minutes) one way across. A small town with lots of charm and beauty.

    Kameoka is the starting point of the famous and historical Hozu River rafting ride that takes you to Arashiyama, home of the famous bamboo forest. Enjoy the rafting, enjoy Arashiyama and take the train back to Kameoka. Hotel is a 5 minute walk from the station. A perfect day.

    Gionmachi is a wonderful section of Kyoto and offers much to see and experience. It is easy, maybe 15 to 20 minutes taxi to other areas of Kyoto that are also beautiful, historical and traditional. Overall, this is a place I would come back to because I have much more to see.

    Kyoto is a big city for someone like me, coming from a small and quiet country. The moment I arrived, I was amazed by how vibrant and full of life it was — every corner seemed to have something fascinating to see or experience. But if you don’t speak the language or plan ahead, it’s easy to feel a little lost in the fast pace and busyness. Thankfully, I was blessed to have friends there who guided me around, making it so much easier to explore and discover the beauty of Kyoto.

    I especially recommend it to travelers from overseas. If you are sightseeing in Kyoto, Nara, or Osaka for a few days, staying at this facility and using Kameoka as your base will be the best way to travel to Kansai. Like taking a day trip from your home. If your schedule is 2 nights and 3 days or 3 nights and 4 days, it is definitely a good deal even if you add transportation expenses. You can't stay in a house in Kyoto or Nara.

Some choices to consider are Honen-in, Eikan-do, Okuno-in and Chion-in on the east side, Kennin-ji with its “dragon ceiling” in Gion, or Sanjusangendo not far from Kiyomizu Dera. If you are heading to the famous Kinkaku-ji, be sure to visit Ryoanji’s renowned garden, of course, and for a true escape from Kyoto’s crowds, wander through the quiet, extensive grounds of Myoshinji, where you absolutely must linger to admire the exquisite Japanese garden at Taizo-in. Out Arashiyama way, visit Otagi Nenbutsu-ji and Adashino Nenbutsu-ji, walk along the Saga Toriimoto Preserved Street and take a look at the moss garden at Gio-ji, before joining the throngs again when you end your stroll at the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest.
