This hoteI is new and very clean. The owner of the hotel is a very nice and very helpful. I can see the beatiful view of the mountain from the window of the hotel. The private onsen is very impressive. I got lost because my GPS doesn't work and I got there late at night. Fortunately, I brought the phone number and the name of the hotel in Japanese. The owner is so nice to come to pick me up and take me to the hotel safely.

It was spacious, clean, well-equipped, comfortable and excellent value for money. The owner was very welcoming, hospitable and kind. It was great to have our own onsen which looked out to the unit's small Japanese garden. We slept on the futon section of the property and we had a good night's sleep. There was an option to sleep on a double bed in the other section of the property. We had a rental car and we had no problem getting to the property by typing in the phone number into the navigation system. We had a small car and the parking space was ok. We enjoyed our lovely stay there and would have loved to stay longer!

Auberge Koyama is a delightful place, recreating the rustic charm and comfort of southern France on Kyushu. We had 2 wonderful nights which included delicious meals in the French style prepared with great skill and attention using local seasonal produce. The host and his mother offer gracious and generous hospitality and we felt welcome and cared for. We enjoyed their company immensely and would love to return. We highly recommend a stay here to others. Location is excellent if you have a car.

Absolutly amazing stay, I can't recommend it enough. We were only two, but given it's a rather spacious japanese style house with two onsen pools (inside and outside), it can comfortably fit 4+ people, which photos don't show enough. We enjoyed absolutly everything, from the house itself, onsen, provided amenities, being so close to nature, the best breakfast we had probably anywhere in the world in a hotel. Thank you to everyone working on making us feel like home here 🙇‍♀️

The staff’s friendliness and detail oriented to everything. I was told to move to 2/F for better view after 2 nights stay, I did not expect it at all, and you can experience the breakfast in their sister hotel Gallery Midoubaru. I particularly appreciate the the front desk staff (a male) helped me with calling the next hotel to confirm our reservation is valid.

Very luxurious! Room was huge with amazing private hot spring, very clean and comfortable. Staff was very polite and friendly, super helpful and provided great service. Big shout out to the staff who helped us book a taxi to the station and also the staff who came to rescue as he could speak Cantonese and explained the process clearly!

The hotel is literally just beside the Oita station, so you could travel to Beppu and Yufuin without much hassle, and you could do some shopping in AMU plaza, or grab a quick bite before you go off. Huge room. Beautiful decor. The atmosphere. It's situated in the forest so it's very peaceful and quiet. Extremely yummy food. You will get to use the private bath for free per day of your stay. Beautiful selection of yutaka also free to choose. Staffs are all very friendly and can speak English fairly well.

Beppu has a lot to offer.

Beppu has a lot to offer. Our highlight was Takasakiyama Natural Zoological Garden. Watch about 900 Japanese macaques roam freely and interact with one another. They come down from the mountain, and you are in immediate proximity with them. A very ethical 'zoo'. We spent 2.5 hours there in amazement. It is set in a beautiful environment.

Such a cute town with a ton of character and really exceptional local businesses. Even though it’s rural we had very upscale experiences at a local bar (Bar Stir) and sake tasting room with a foot bath inside!! I would have loved to stay longer!

Not a great deal to do or see in Oita.

Not a great deal to do or see in Oita. The castle ruins holds some interest. A very friendly man in a temporary office in the car park helpfully explained more about the castle and it's moats. Could use Oita as a base for visiting Beppu if you can't get accommodation there By train it's only 280 yen and 12 minutes away.

We visited in the off season, so not much was going on, although we knew that and it was all right. Onta Yaki Pottery Village was a terrific day trip, although we did have to take a long taxi ride to get there. We loved the friendly, humorous, laid-back style of the people in Hita - really lovely folks!

Japan is packed full of Forest & Mountains 70% and has a long Coast BIG big cities middle ones and some small towns and villages in the off valley‘s eg SAIKI has on the streets around WASABI Hostel as it is called so by locals I was singing with Karaoke March is not a highlight season therefore it wasn’t packed like the popular ones

We loved three destinations in Beppu - Firstly, 'The Hells' - 7 natural hot springs bubbling out of the Earth - in different, natural colours, depending on the mineral content! Spectacular! Secondly, the Kunisaki Peninsula. Takes a day to drive around or book a tour (operating only on Saturdays and Sundays). (Leaves from the train station.) Well worth it! You can book it via the Tourist Office - at the main rail station. Thirdly, take an ordinary, public bus (from the train station) up to Yufuin - an hour, picturesque trip, well worth it! Gorgeous mountains to see, and walking in the valley, up there - to a nearby, pretty lake.

Morning walk along the waterway when there were not many tourists was peaceful and enjoyable. The are lots of small shops on the main street, but might be too crowded to enjoy. The shops close around 5pm. My favorite eating place was Pizzeria Kunugi no Oka; good food and good view of the Yufu city.

I loved this town and could easily live here.

I loved this town and could easily live here. I was lucky enough to catch Ukai (cormorant fishing on the Mikuma River while enjoying a dinner cruise). It has a laid-back vibe, with some excellent dining options close to the station. Unfortunately, I ran out of time to spend more time in this beautiful town.

The natural scenery is incredible and there are a surprising amount of attractions for a town its size. I really enjoyed every onsen I tried too. Public transit was not as good as other areas I went, but still plenty workable.
