We were pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the staff here. In other 5* hotels in Sri Lanka, guests may wear shorts to dinner, but here the dress code is followed, which we were really glad for. The hotel is really representative. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. I am on a gluten free diet and everything was prepared for me to enjoy. A big thank you to Norbert who looked after us in the restaurant and especially dinner was a real highlight. In the morning we went for a walk among the tea plantations and visited a small tea museum. The staff were exceptional in theory professionalism and friendliness. The fppd was exquisite. And the view will be forever seared into my memory as what heaven might look like. If you manage to pull yourself away from the delights of the cottage, the Somerset Tea Factory tour was absolutely exceptional. My friend had already been on a tea factory tour and for me the trip was really perfunctory (when in Rome) but it was absolutely fascinating, I learned so much. I could not recommend it more. Maskeliya is a market town which could be lot more .The hilly terrain is a planners dream. If you are into budget travel and want a genuine local experience, NanuOya is a good town to visit. It’s very close to the main tourist town Nuwara Eliya (approx 9km away) and has buses heading there every 20mins. You can also get there by train. The locals are very helpful and kind. You get a few places to eat food like South Indian dishes and koththu and a few places to buy liquor from. There are two waterfalls and the larger, wider one located inside the Glassough tea estate is a place where you can bathe in on a sunny day. Do not climb on Saturdays as you will most probably not be able to reach the top. It was over-crowded and the path is narrow the last 500 meters.
