It is actually anything but. The staff are incredibly switched on to customer satisfaction: Tara the GM appeared twice at our table at different times to make sure we had perfection. Our room was large and deliciously cool. The bed was marshmallow comfortable. We relaxed by birdwatching at the lake ( plus recommend the guided birdwatching). Loved the huge pool, played petanque and loved the food. Best breakfast hoppers of our trip and we have sampled more than a few. We called this our big boutique hotel as when the tour groups leave each morning, we had it virtually to ourselves. It is a good base for Dambulla cave temple and Sigiriya. There is so much more to do in this area than I realised.
There is so much more to do in this area than I realised. I will definitely come back. The area is beautiful and we were sad to leave. We dud Pidurangala Rock which was fun, more of an adventurous climb than Lions Rock. It has incredible views of Lions Rock. We also did a safari in Minneriya National Park. The park was beautiful and we saw so many elephants plus lots of varieties of birds, golden jackals, monkees, mongoose, the grizzled giant squirrel, buffalo and jungle foul. We also went to Dambula Temple Caves which is very spiritual and Luckgrove Spice Gardens which was an incredible experience. Highly recommend this area.Guest review byHazelIreland - 10.0

We chose not to climb Sigiriya (having just recovered from Adam's Peak!) but instead chose the much shorter Pidurangala which afforded a fabulous view of Sigiriya. Highly recommended. A visit to the Bawa hotel, Heritance Kandalama, is well worth it as an insight into the brilliant architectural mind of Geoffrey Bawa.Guest review byImanAustralia - 10.0

A beautiful place on earth that there are lots of 360 degree view points. But if it rains it will ruin your plans. So make sure you depend on weatherly and visit Matale when it shows many continuous sunny days. Dambulla is an excellent base for exploring Kandy, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya. We stayed there for 4 Nights and could cover the heritage sites easily. Dambulla Caves are a must-see and so is Sigiriya (just 16 Kms. away). Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa are around an hours drive but Dambulla is much well-connected and less touristy.Guest review byMalayIndia - 8.0

Mainly there are 10-12 attractions in Matale. As I just stayed one day which was not sufficient to visit all the places. Among them where I went were also hampered due to the rain at time to time.
