After Porto and then Lisbon we found Coimbra to be a welcome...
After Porto and then Lisbon we found Coimbra to be a welcome relief from the tourist hustle and bustle. Its a lovely town, quieter than the bigger cities but with some great sites. The University Library is spectacular as is the Cathedrals and the old town is very interesting wandering around. The location was perfect for us. Breakfast was worth the price. Had a restaurant if you needed a hot meal on the premises. Close to an Aldi as well as a coin laundromat. Aveiro is a great place with plenty to see and do. Many lovely places to eat and drink. We stayed for 10 days but I think 7 would have been enough. Must not miss a visit to Costa Nova with the gorgeous coloured houses, also a boat ride is a must. Nazare beach is beautiful but the town lacks amenities, there is nothing to do if you can't swim in the sea (we couldn't due to red flags). Twenty minutes by car is a beautiful town with amazing beach and calm waters called Praia de Sao Martinho, much better.Guest review byGraham - 10.0

Beautiful fishing village with charm and character as well as lovely activity filled beaches. Lovely restaurants and bars to soak up the sun. 3 nights was perfect to walk the coast and spend some time relaxing and on the beach. We had a car but walked everywhere to get the best out of it. Recommend the Java house bar for drinks and relaxing and check around for restaurants. A wonderful town to visit! Lots of shops with unique gifts, beautiful church, a castle, incredible musicians making the most of the open space and acoustics. LOVED our visit! Restaurants did not disappoint and our stay at Patio House was outstanding! Our hosts were incredible and ensured our stay was memorable and special. We felt very welcomed! Highly recommend making this walled town a stop and linger for a while during any trip to Portugal! The cobblestones and hills are worth it! If Viseu was near the ocean I would've moved there inmediately. Lovely streets to wander around, parks and local shops and restaurants. Lovely architecture to admire and just love the ambience. Having a walking tour and a tour of the Covento with Monica from GuruWalk is highly recommended. She was brilliant and really enhanced our stay by showing us small things we would never have noticed. Tomar is a very pretty Portuguese town. Nearby are the monastaries of Alcobaca and Batalha both world heritage sites and easy to visit.
