We stayed in Porto for three nights and, from the moment we arrived, felt warmly welcomed. The staff were extremely professional, providing us with detailed information about the city, offering excellent recommendations, and even greeting us with a welcome drink—a gesture we truly appreciated. The room was impeccable: spacious, clean, and equipped with all the necessary amenities. The shower’s water pressure was excellent, which made our stay even more comfortable. Additionally, the housekeeping team did an exceptional job, ensuring everything was maintained to perfection. Regarding the hotel’s location, it is extremely convenient, being close to the metro station and offering easy access to all the tourist attractions. It’s also worth noting that the area is quiet and safe, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration. Overall, a highly recommended experience—we would return without hesitation!

FAQs about hotels in Norte Region

The Essence of Portugal

With fabulous beaches stretching from Caminha by the Spanish border to just south of Espinho, Portugal’s Norte region is known for beautiful scenery and historic cities.

Most Norte hotels on Booking.com are in its UNESCO World Heritage-listed capital Porto (or Oporto). Attractively spread over hills, it has wine cellars storing port from the Douro River Valley vineyards upstream.

Voted one of Portugal’s most liveable cities, Vila Real has the Mateus house overlooking a peaceful pond. Guimarães boasts a UNESCO World Heritage-listed historical centre and is known as the ‘birthplace of the Portugal’. Its stately castle and the Palace of the Dukes of Bragança are well worth a visit.

Bragança itself is by Montesinho Natural Park in north-east Norte, and a keep remains from its former castle. Chaves also has a castle keep and a Roman stone bridge, but unlike Braga, it no longer has remains of its Roman baths, erected over hot springs. Braga’s crowning glory is the Bom Jesus do Monte sanctuary, set high in hills, with a wonderful staircase and garden overlooking the city.

South of Galicia is the beautiful Peneda-Gerês area, Portugal’s only national park, and to its west is Viana do Castelo with its Norte beach hotels set on Blue Flag beaches. Also noteworthy is impressive Basilica de Santa Luzia, surveying the riverfront town below.

People are very nice and helpful. We arrived in the middle of the night (around 03:45) due to flight trouble and they left us instructions for pick-up of keys. We really appreciated the offered solutions. Thanks Ernani. Our luggage arrived 2 days later and they received them on our absence. Perfect! There are around 10 or 12 small bungalows, arranged internally like apartments, with terraces and outrageous views over the valley. There are modern kitchen equipment, with induction hearth, stove, dish washer and also some pans. If you are a cook you will miss some pans and additional equipment like mixers, but for usual cooking it is sufficient. There is a heated internal pool, very nice as we stayed 5 days in autumn and had a lot of rain, wind and low temperatures. Head caps are required and can be bought on reception for 4 € each. We had our breakfast included. During the days where there were enough guests, rich and varied options were available. As people got reduced, they asked us at night before to choose food from a menu. No desperdice. Perfect! We didn't eat at restaurant, but it smelled very well during the initial days and they offer some nice combinations at a relatively high price level (this seems to be inherent to the region), but we are not really enabled to evaluate this point. Rooms were clean on arrival. In bathroom there is a heating device which allows hanging and drying of bath towels. Very nice as this small detail is often neglected at hotels. As the bungalows are placed on a steep hill, it is adequate more for a bit sporty people. Access by road is also steep but asphalted and reachable by standard vehicles. We are planning to return to Peneda-Gerês (under better weather conditions) and would certainly consider to stay at Pousadela again.

Hands down, one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The location is stunning, the rooms are amazing, the food and service are all next level. The staff were absolutely wonderful, from reception to housekeeping to everyone in between, this hotel clearly prides itself on exceptional service and it shows. Additionally, while I would never describe it as a family resort, there were several small thoughtful details (like a tasteful play area adjacent to the main restaurant, a kids menu, child-s-zed bathrobes, etc) that made children feel very welcome and cared for. Truly, honestly, one of the best places I've ever stayed. Highly recommend, both as a romantic destination and for a family holiday.

The service has been consistent over the years, the team really does love their work and their job, you can tell from the passion and warmth they serve. Louis - one of the OG sommeliers/manager and his colleague were fantastic - trying to recreate the best steak I've had at their property over 3 years ago. We say that time changes everyone, but I'm so glad to see that Six Senses remains exceptionally well run ~ please don't ever change that part! Also had a really enjoyable and dare I say life altering Osteopath Massage session - learnt a lot from my body and Lorenzo really did make my spine feel looser. Thank you!

Beautiful hotel, spectacular views, great food, friendly staff, a chef's garden, vineyard and relaxing pools and spa. We enjoyed our time relaxing. It has a lot of history, with older churches and castle fortresses. Very walkable and scenic. I was told by a Portuguese local early in my trip that Braga has a lot of older retirees visit and reside there, and that's accurate. I found Braga affordable, although housing costs can be too much.

This small city was an absolute gem - stunning ancient squares and streets filled with lovely cafes and restaurants, altogether not as touristy as it could have been and very easy to walk around. We dined in two of the main squares with traditional Portuguese cuisine and inexpensive wines, and lovely ice cream outlets. We took the cablecar up the hillside and walked back down. We visited the Ducal palace (fantastic reconstruction) and castle (ruin). We could easily have spent a week here relaxing and taking in the atmosphere. And very easy to reach from Oporto.

Intertesting port town with a huge monastery on top of a hill. Loved the restaurants and it is easy to drive to other areas of Northern Portugal from there. The weather was comfortable, too. Bustling city with plenty of cafes and eateries, slightly off the usual tourist trail. The Castelo de Braganca was well worth a visit. We thought the prices in the city were very reasonable. Watch out if you are using an old satnav - we were directed up a very steep, narrow street which turned out to be a dead end. The reversing down the cobbles and a 37-point turn were a challenge!

I love Chaves, small ancient town which has a river going through it with its own Roman bridge going across it… wonderful restaurants, the food is amazing here in the north of Portugal! Amazing places to stay with fabulous Portuguese restaurants! You’re also close to one of the nicest wine regions in the world! If you drive go trough Régua up the Douro where the grapes are grown! This place gets a well-deserved 5 stars—no doubt about it! From the moment we walked in, it felt warm, cozy, and totally like home. It’s huge, sparkling clean, and honestly… it looks even better than in the photos (and that’s saying something!). Usually with apartments that look this good, you think: “Yeah right, too good to be true.” But nope—this one actually turned out to be better than too good! It’s got everything. And I mean everything: coffee machine, iron, washing machine, dishwasher… you name it, it’s there—and all in tip-top shape. We were just the two of us, but there’s more than enough space for 4 or even 6 people to hang out comfortably. And the view… wow. Just wow. Need a room with a view? Look no further—this is the one!
