I tend to avoid vacations in Slovakia due to bad past experiences, but this stay pleasantly surprised me. The receptionist was amazing, exceptionally professional, and helpful. If I were the owner of the hotel, I would reward her generously because such excellent staff in hospitality is rare. The breakfast was delicious, with a decent selection, and the dinners served at the Kamzík restaurant were absolutely great. I also have to praise the restaurant staff for being very kind and attentive.

This hotel is fabulous. We were welcomed with all necessary things in the room and even more. The fridge in the room was stuffed with any kind of drink and at our arrival also chocolates on our pillows were there waiting for us. Breakfast is in a very nice restaurant of the hotel and choice is wide and quality high. Rooms with balcony had two chairs and flowers on the balcony. The hotel is very quiet and staff was extremely kind. I was not feeling very well and they allowed me to take Breakfast in the room. Everything was so good that we decided to stay one more night so they found an exactly the same room and charged us the same price. Everything was perfect.

Fabulously located guest house, just next to the Popradské Pleso. It is a good starting point for hikes, although many hiking routes are closed at winter time. The hotel was not accessible by car (it is an hour long walk from the nearest parking place). Although, one can order a drive to the hotel, but we didn't try this service. Our room was spatious and comfortable, with a lake view. A good restaurant and bar belongs to the accomodation. One can use the sauna and jakuzzi, which is in a good state, but for a high price. The staff was always very helpful. We had a wonderful time here.

We loved the Christmas decoration everywhere, they took it really seriously. Minibar in the room free of charge and refilled every day. Nice mountain view. Private parking.

We went mid December which i thought would be peak skiing...

We went mid December which i thought would be peak skiing season so there would be lots of life in the town. To my surprise the whole town was shockingly quiet, we barely seen 8-9 people all together throughout our stay, the place actually felt like a ghost town. At first i thought the ski tracks were closed as we couldnt see a single skier or any people around at all. So yeah it became pretty boring after the first hour of being the only souls on the mountain and on the tracks. Every shop was closed, had to walk to the other side of the town to find a grocery shop thats open. So yeah it was a very lonely and boring trip to me, even though i dont like the crowd myself. Wouldnt wanna return here

Perfect location for exploring the High Tatra mountains.

Perfect location for exploring the High Tatra mountains. Very close to restaurants and attractions. Our top tips for attractions within half an hour drive from Smokovce: - Bachledova TreeTop walk - Walk around Strbske Lake - Strednica Parking Photo Point. FREE. A hidden gem. Best views of the Tatra Mountains. Walk down to the 2 lakes. - Hrebienok funicular and Ladovy Dom (this was closed for maintenance but we heard great things about it). Top tip for the most overrated and expensive attraction (i.e. not recommended): Mount Lomnicky Stit cable car by Tatranska Lomnica (we got a return ticket to Skalnate Pleso). Best restaurant in Smokovce: Manuel Caffe & Bistro Italian restaurant.

The place is just beautifull, mountains are greal I love it...

The place is just beautifull, mountains are greal I love it in different time of the year. Transport is great however if you are paying for cable cars it can get expensive but simillary you will pay the price in different countries. If skying it is worth booking the passes in advance as it saves a lot of money.

I was up in the mountains so didn't see much of the towns.

I was up in the mountains so didn't see much of the towns. I got the little train up from Stary Smokoviec and went for shopping in Strbske Pleso. Neither town appeals to me but Popradske Pleso is gorgeous. One of my favourite places in the Tatras.

I liked the most hospitality and accomodation.

I liked the most hospitality and accomodation. I dislike that in this the time there were some Gorals days and it wasn’t possible go to the “cloud pavement” without buying an expensive ticket for this event. So my hiking up was useless.

Zdiar is a quiet town that we used as a starting point for...

Zdiar is a quiet town that we used as a starting point for trails both around it and in nearby Poland. We were in the off-season, I think in winter it is different - lots of slopes nearby We ate at a different restaurant every day. Very happy with the food and the kindness of the staff.

The region is full of lovely walks and activities. TL is just enough on the edge of all the main tourist activity to have a quiet charm yet proximity to the good stuff. The trains and cable cars were easy to negotiate and there is a good choice of restaurants. One tip: if you want to take the cable car to the highest point at TL, BOOK AHEAD!

Due to recent property developments, Smokovce are no longer...

Due to recent property developments, Smokovce are no longer the quaint, picturesque village it used to be. It got more crowded and noisier. Nevertheless, compared to Štrbske Pleso or Tatranska Lomnica, it is a good choice for a holiday in the High Tatras.

My 3rd time in High Tatra' and decided to stay for a month...

My 3rd time in High Tatra' and decided to stay for a month this time and loving it! Too many peeks to climb 😉. Very well marked trails with beautiful nature. Plenty of high peeks to climb although for some certified guide is required. And don't be fooled that the highest peeks are not as high as in the alps...it is very hard work and training is required to be able to climb them. Definitely a contender to Alps
