The room and bathroom were spacious, well designed and impeccably clean -- we really appreciated the attention to details and the additional functionality offered by the daybed, the small desk, the armchairs as we were travelling with our tween and also had to do some work while on vacation. The pool was lovely - it is a good size and none of us had red eyes from chlorination. The beach the property opens onto is gloriously clean and we had it entirely to ourselves most of the time. The cafe served up delicious food but their menu offers only a few Sri Lankan dishes. At our request, the kitchen was only too happy to whip up Sri Lankan meals -- prawn and fish curries, traditional coconut sambol, dhals, gotukala salad, okra salad, ridge gourd in coconut milk, star bean stir fry, eggplant gojju, Sri Lankan pancakes with ice cream, watalapam .... these were by far the best meals we enjoyed during the entirety of our holiday and we would heartily recommend visitors to Lankavatara sample the Sri Lankan meals. The staff are very well informed and helpful and did everything they could to make our stay a memorable one -- from organising tuktuks, catamaran rides in the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary and turtle watching or airport transfers.

After five days of thrilling adventures and vibrant encounters across Sri Lanka, this sanctuary offered the ideal place to unwind and recharge—a quiet, beautiful haven that felt like the perfect pause. Clean and comfortable budget accommodation. Great value. The family that run the homestay are very kind and helpful. Decent WiFi, hot water and AC, all at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Having travelled around Sri Lanka for eleven days and experienced various accommodation, Shine Wave was by far the cleanest. The room was equipped to a very high standard with a very comfortable bed and bedding. There were even umbrellas and sunshades to take to the beach! The breakfast was served on a little table on our very private balcony surrounded by tropical trees. The food was also the very best Sri Lankan breakfast we’d been offered, with delicious pancakes as well as all the other things, all beautifully presented. The proprietor bent over backwards to ensure that we had a good beach experience, which we were able to walk to in about a minute down a sandy track, and what a beach! The proprietor told us what to do at eight o’clock that evening in order to see the turtles at night ( i.e. go to the small turtle conservation centre, pay the guides 2000SR each which we believe is used for the conservation project.) That evening, the hotel owner was at the hotel gate where he loaned us his torch to go to the beach. The torch shone a red light, which is the only colour allowed on the beach and is less likely to affect the turtles. We went with a small group of other travellers from the conservation centre, and on the beach we were utterly and totally amazed by what we saw! To begin with, we saw a tiny turtle that had just hatched out of it’s egg, scurrying down the beach and heading for the sea. Then we followed the guide down the beach a little way, where the guide shone his red torchlight on to an enormous green turtle at the back of the beach. She was down in a dip having laid her eggs and was laboriously digging up the sand and burying what was likely to have been about a hundred and twenty eggs. The final thrill was to watch her move slowly back down the beach, leaving her glorious patterns in the sand. When she reached the sea, our last sight of her was when the waves lapped over her …. and then she was gone.

The room was big and clean, the view was incredible, the surrounding was calm and full only of birds singing. The food was delicious and the guy there was extremely versatile and ready to help us by arranging the meals and the turtles watching as we wanted.

Sri Lanka has amazing hotels and homestays but THIS is a once in a lifetime experience! And Im not only talking about the room itself which is made with so much love! But lets start with the Hobbit House....you can find only 2 of them in a lush tropical garden separated in a way that you wont even notice the other one.The house is handmade but with so much details it is truly incredible.Amazing bed, huge bathroom and just this uncomparable feeling! However there is something else that completely caught our heart and soul. The host Hirushan. Such a heartwarming and caring person who comes with the bonus that his mum cooks the most incredible food! The beach is just minutes away and it is stunning! Complete calm and serenity and turtles laying their eggs at night! Igabara is a MUST GO whenever you are in Tangalle!!!

It was incredible stay for us, especially experience on lagoon going throught lotus fields and watching sunset and bats was non-transferable experience. Also Mawella beach and little fisherman harbour had unforgettable poetics.And also it is impossible not to mension very comfortable beds in bungalows and very friendly and always helpful staff.Thank you, Suresh!

Everything was amazing here and we felt like at home. Very quiet and comfortable stay and lovely owners. Breakfast was huge and delicious. WiFi worked very well and we loved that each room had own drinkable water in big canisters inside the room so we didn’t have to worry about anything. Lots of flower decorations everywhere which makes stay very lovely, we stayed 4 nights and if they weren’t fully booked we would extended the stay without doubt. This was the best stay we had during our trip in Sri Lanka and no wonder this place has such a nice reviews.

An exceptional, family run guest house, very close to the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka! The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, the A/C worked perfectly, and there was cold beer in the mini fridge. The delicious breakfast was Sri Lankan, and each day something different.
