To start off, if you arrive at Toba Train Station between 1430-1800, they provide free shuttle service to the hotel, which otherwise would be a 20 minute walk. Look for their name beside their car. The staff were friendly to a fault and even if they can't keep up with English, they'd do anything to help you. The place is old, that's what you get for looking for an onsen ryokan but it's well maintained and the cuisine offered was faultless.

Situated in Toba, 80 metres from Shirahama Beach, TAOYA Shima features accommodation with a shared lounge, free private parking, a restaurant and a spa and wellness centre.

Staff was always really friendly and ready to help when needed. Room was very spacious and comfortable, and the sea view was amazing (just a bit bright in the morning). The cafe serves nice coffee and cakes, and we also really enjoyed the pearl hot bath. The hotel also uses mikimoto products in the rooms, which really adds a premium touch. There is also a shuttle bus to and from the train station, which I would recommend using since the hotel is uphill. All in all, would highly recommend if you are visiting Toba.

Renovated in 2016, Shima Kanko Hotel The Classic was the venue for G7 Ise-Shima Summit 2016. The hotel is located in Ise-Shima National Park and overlooks Ago Bay on the renowned Rias coast.

As a European, I love it. I was worried it might be tacky, cheap, kitsch and so on, but it's just a really lovely and stylish slice of Mediterranean. Grounds and facilities were impeccable thanks to recent renovations. Great food, great public bath, great staff. The breakfast was a delight. It's just about within walking distance of the Yokoyama trail area if you're up for a bit of hiking.
