This was an amazing place to stay. It was beautiful, very clean and in a great location just a short walk from the historic centre of Takayama. The staff were incredibly friendly and kind, and made us feel so at home. I can’t recommend it enough!

Was the best japanese experience that we have on our trip. The house is very traditional and beatiful, they have also a nice garden. And the best thing was Tai and his family that take care of us, they were very kind, prepared the best japanese breakfast and help us with everything.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station.

As the previous reviews suggested, it’s a very unique experience to wake up with a view of woods that could only be imagined or seen in movies. Best still, it was covered with snow the 2D1N I visited. The room, the setup and the view kind of present itself. I opted for dinner and breakfast, I’m glad I did. The food was exceptional, it went down a treat. The host has a great selection of wines too! It’s a 10/10 experience for me.

Excellent value for money at this hotel in the mountains. I had the place to myself as a solo traveller and felt I was getting a great deal for a huge room and private hot spring bath looking out over trees with real hot spring water from the area. Private balcony in the room and all! Authentic Japanese breakfast and dinner and the host made the effort to change my advance order from fish to beef after I'd learned beef is a speciality in the region, and my god was it good. The hotel is slightly old fashioned in some of its design but I didn't feel that was a problem, and you would do best to have a car if you want to explore the area, but the hotel itself is right on a bus stop to Takayama so you can easily travel there like I did as a solo traveller getting public transport. Staff spoke English and were super attentive.

Renovated in 2014, Kazeya overlooks the majestic Hida mountain range, and offers public and private hot spring-baths.

Everything! The staff are excellent. Little details such as instructions on what button does what on the aircon remote! Beautiful food. Highly recommend.

Hida Takayama Hodakaso Yamano Iori is just a 3-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station and a 10-minute walk from Old Town and Takayama Jinya and Miyagawa Morning Market.

Pleasantly surprised about public bath being tattoo friendly. Staff was great! I really enjoyed my time here. They even write your name out in the front of establishment.
