Amazing and unique Japan experience! Very nice room, very friendly, English speaking staff (which is not very common in Japan), a lot of small details that made our stay even better (Japanese tea and biscuites in the room, onsen, kimono, slippers, cosmetics accessories …) and delicious breakfast - Japanese or Western stlye, they can even arrange gluten free option.

We had a fantastic stay at SOY. Tai-san and his family are very welcoming hosts, and extremely focused on making your stay as enjoyable as possible. The rooms are impeccably curated, and the breakfasts are delicious. Tai-san is also always ready to drop/pick you up from the city if required, and provides great recommendations on things to do and where to eat - even makes reservations for you! Absolutely recommended stay in Takayama 😃 (the cute cat Tara-san is the added bonus 😁)

As the previous reviews suggested, it’s a very unique experience to wake up with a view of woods that could only be imagined or seen in movies. Best still, it was covered with snow the 2D1N I visited. The room, the setup and the view kind of present itself. I opted for dinner and breakfast, I’m glad I did. The food was exceptional, it went down a treat. The host has a great selection of wines too! It’s a 10/10 experience for me.

Staffs are so sweet and so kind. I thought they would provide 5 star service, but instead we received 50,000 star service! My wife and I just couldn’t show enough appreciation to the world-class service the crew had given. Best experience ever!

Excellent value for money at this hotel in the mountains. I had the place to myself as a solo traveller and felt I was getting a great deal for a huge room and private hot spring bath looking out over trees with real hot spring water from the area. Private balcony in the room and all! Authentic Japanese breakfast and dinner and the host made the effort to change my advance order from fish to beef after I'd learned beef is a speciality in the region, and my god was it good. The hotel is slightly old fashioned in some of its design but I didn't feel that was a problem, and you would do best to have a car if you want to explore the area, but the hotel itself is right on a bus stop to Takayama so you can easily travel there like I did as a solo traveller getting public transport. Staff spoke English and were super attentive.

Kazeya was such a beautiful place, traditional japanese mansion with a super cozy private onsen. The staff were super kind, even though we misscalculated our times and end up arriving super late, they had delicious cozy dinner ready for us. Our host that night speaks spanish and made us feel super comfortable and welcomed. If we ever come back to Japan we are visiting Kazeya again. We loved it.

Our stay at Auberge Hidanomori was such a wonderfully relaxing, foodie experience. The location was incredibly peaceful, with simple but very comfortable rooms. The private baths were a lovely way to relax into a wonderful evening of extraordinary food and wine from incredibly knowledgable and experienced hosts.
