The hotel is right in the city center just a few steps from the teater and the walking street in Sønderborg. I wouldn’t call this sweet a suite, but it was a very spacious room with nice interior , lots of closets space and a safe.

Situated next to Schackenborg Castle in the picturesque village of Møgeltønder, this inn dates back to 1687. It offers free Wi-Fi, tastefully decorated rooms and both a gourmet and a la carte restaurant (seasonal). You can enjoy coffe and cake in the afternoon after a short walk in the gardens, or a drink in the evening. We loved the location and the gorgeous buildings in the old parts of Møgeltunder where the kro is located.. Great area for walks, especially when the weather is on your side. The Schackenborg castle is next door. Our room was located upstairs in a qute house next to the main building. The room was petite but still spacious, considering the time when the house was built. The bathroom was well equipped with toiletries, and it had a bathtub. The breakfast was extraordinary with a good spread from local producers as well as other Danish foods. Lovely porcelain and ambience. The staff was very hospitable and friendly. Especially the staff at the time for our arrival when the reception was closed. They had to leave their duties at the restaurant to give us the things missing in our room as it was only set up for one person. A minor error, but they really got out of their ways to set it straight. The garden was lovely as lovely as well.

The large, bright guest rooms at Hotel Røde-Kro include a desk and flat-screen TV with cable channels. Each has a private bathroom with shower. Friendly reception . Good bicycle storage inside and secure . Our room, #22 was large but without ambiance and right off the highway with traffic noise continually . Had A/C so we just kept the windows closed to decrease the noise . Our room was at the top is one of the narrowest and steepest staircases that we have experienced in a European Hotel . Only way out of the room was down the narrow stairs in an emergency or a fire . Really not a good idea or plan . Breakfast was good with several hot and cold choices .

Other facilities at Den Gamle Grænsekro include a children’s playground and a billiards table. Historic, clean and a fantastic dinner and breakfast. The staff was excellent, I will be back.
