Hotel Duomo is just 15 steps up the stone stairway from Orvieto's majestic Gothic Cathedral. All rooms feature air conditioning, an LCD TV with DVD player, and a small table with 2 chairs. Some offer views of the Cathedral. The room was very nice, staff very helpful, breakfast was fantastic, and we were especially thankful that the hotel explained (in advance, by email) how to drive the the hotel, and then provided valet parking so our time negotiating tiny streets was kept to a minimum.

Hotel Il Palazzo is set in the left wing of Palazzo Bartocci Fontana, a 16th-Century building halfway between Assisi's Basilica of Saint Francis and Piazza del Comune square. Free WiFi is available throughout. We were already in this hotel with my husband 4 years ago, so there was no question that we would come back to the same place. Everyone at the reception was as nice as possible, on the first day they gave us directions to the restaurants in the area, which we tried and had very enjoyable lunches and dinners in the restaurants. The hotel rooms are impeccable, very clean and tidy. We loved the breakfast, as well as the service was perfect. We have never met such a kind and pleasant welcome.

As well as enjoying the Umbrian and international cuisine in the restaurant, you can relax by the ample swimming pool in the garden, whilst your children play in the small playground.

La Terrazza boasts a brand-new wellness centre, featuring Turkish bath, sauna, hydromassage, emotional showers, relax zone, solarium, massages and beauty treatments. Sessions in the wellness centre can be booked on site. It has the best pool on our travels to date. They let us check in really early. The room had an amazing view over the Umbria Valley. On the morning we left they let us start our breakfast 30 minutes early.

Set within a renovated medieval building in the heart of Orvieto, Palazzo Piccolomini is a 4-star hotel a 5-minute walk from the Cathedral. Rooms successfully mix classical design with modern comforts. The kindness of the staff was the most important asset of the hotel. Everyone from the lady at the reception, the colleague who took away our car to park it, the gentleman who was serving at breakfast (and also brought our car from the parking) were really nice and helpful. I liked the smell inside the hotel, bed was comfortable, bathroom was new and fully functional and breakfast was surprisingly complete for Italy, everything to suit anyone’s taste. Location was top, near everything and also valet parking was very useful.
