From the moment of arrival to drop off at train station, top class treatment throughout. It’s a historic, well-established hotel nestled in a quiet forest catering to celebrities and well-heeled travelers since 1894. Service and meal offerings were spectacular; the rooms modern and well-appointed, on par with any four-and five star hotels. Something that really caught my attention was the cushioned floors in the room; walking on them gave a level of comfort I’ve not felt at other hotels. And end your day at the iconic bar where John Lennon entertained those gathered on that piano when he stayed here.

Offering a barbecue and ski storage space, AIBIYA is located in Yamanouchi in the Nagano Region, 4.1 km from Jigokudani Monkey Park. This place is simply amazing. The rooms are beautiful, it's always nice and warm inside in winter and everything is extremely clean. Our hosts were super friendly and helped out with anything we needed. We don't ask or Snowboard, so they helped us plan other daytrips. There is a big kitchen for if you want to cook and common areas for if you just want to relax. Also you can get access to the onsen of other hotels for very little money, which was very relaxing. We really enjoyed our stay and would higly recommend to anyone!

This inn is located in a scenic area with access to wonderful hiking trails and outdoor activities right from the doorstep. At the staff's recommendation, I walked to a beautiful waterfall and pond close by. The birch forests in the area and views of Mount Norikura are absolutely stunning. We found the area very peaceful with few people around when we visited mid-week. We enjoyed our time soaking in the onsen baths. As my partner has a couple of small tattoos, it was great that they were private and therefore tattoo-friendly. The outdoor bath was a particular treat. The staff were very friendly with great recommendations for the surrounding area. Our room was very large and the futons comfortable. I wish we could have stayed longer than just one night.

Rooms are not huge but ample for a couple with lovely outlook over the garden. Breakfast is home cooked and delicious, served in a nice dining room with open fireplace nearby. The owners generously offered to serve us a home cooked meal for dinner one evening as we were having difficulty finding an open restaurant. It was delicious. Private bathrooms are small but adequate however they have a great large indoor bath/spa for guests which was so relaxing. Plenty of lovely places to visit, drives, local onsen etc and the owners have lots of local knowledge and information. Really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it.

Opened in August 2012, B&B Hotel Hyochoan offers simple Western-style accommodations. Free in-room WiFi is available and guests can enjoy bird watching from the property’s terrace. The hosts were adorable. The room was very clean and comfortable, in a nice neighborhood. The breakfast was the best we had in all our stay in Japan.

At Daymaruya Ryokan, guests can enjoy hot-spring baths and traditional Japanese-style accommodations with free wired internet access. Everything was perfect! The staff was incredibly kind, came to pick me up at the station and then offered to take me to the monkey park. The hotel was nice, clean and the indoors and outdoors baths were great. A very calm place. I totally would recommend!!

Located in the Shibu hot-spring district, guests can enjoy indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths at Suminoyu. Massages can be requested and a footbath is also available for extra relaxation. Very beautiful Ryokan and we had a great experience. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The food in itself was a great experience and I recommend you at least book 1 dinner and breakfast. The little town feels very local and authentic and the sceneries are amazing.

A small 6-room inn with Ryokan meals and cosy interiors, Yasuragi is just a few minutes drive to Jigokudani Monkey Park and an 8-minute walk from Yudanaka Train Station. Hot-spring baths are featured.... The room was very nice and comfortable, like all the building. Very appreciated the onsen. The owners were so nice and friendly, we had dinner and breakfast there and it was fantastic. Near to the monkey snow park. Highly recomended.

A 5-minute drive from National Treasure Matsumoto Castle, Ryokan Seifuso is next to Shinshu University and boasts a view of the Northern Alps and the freshness of the Metoba River. We were amazed by the Ryokan Seifuso. The staff was more than friendly. From the very first moment we felt welcomed. I was really sad to leave the hotel (and Matsumoto). Before coming I was concerned a bit about the shared bathroom but it was not an issue at all (and the onsen was awesome!). Ryokan is located outside of the city center but one can reach Matsumoto Castle in a pleasant walk. Should I come to Matsumoto again I would look for option to stay here!
