Takayama City, Takayama
Ryokan Asunaro: A Traditional Japanese Inn in Takayama.
Nestled just a 6-minute walk from Takayama Station and the Nohi Bus Center, Ryokan Asunaro offers an authentic Japanese inn experience.
Our rooms are designed with traditional Japanese aesthetics, featuring tatami mat flooring throughout. For those who prefer a futon on tatami or a bed, we also offer Japanese-Western style rooms. The warm ambiance is further enhanced by local artists' paintings adorning the walls.
We went as a group and we loved the ryokan. It was very spacious, everything was very clean, and it was conveniently located near the bus station, the train station, and the city center where most of the shopping takes place. The rooms were the most spacious we stayed in throughout Japan, and the staff were all very kind. I would definitely stay here again.
Takayama City, Takayama
Just a 2-minute walk from Takayama Station, Oyado Koto No Yume offers Japanese-style rooms with a colourful touch. The hotel features hot-spring baths, a restaurant serving breakfast and free WiFi throughout the property. This ryokan is introduced in Michelin Green Guide Japan. Location was amazing- walking distance from the station and from the old town. The place was beautiful, and the rooms had everything. Futons were very comfy. The onsen was the best I tried so far (but I haven’t tried a lot). We did the private bath, and it was really nice. They also lend you yukatas to wear around the ryokan. And the staff were very friendly, hospitable and helpful!
Ito Onsen, Ito
Guests can relax at the communal hot spring bath or the private hot-spring bath free of charge. You can cook in the fully equipped kitchen or read at the mini library. Free Wi-Fi is provided at the lounge. This was the first hostel I’ve stayed in and I can’t recommend it enough! The property is absolutely beautiful in a traditional Japanese style with a large common area that’s great to hangout and chat with other guests. The staff also speaks English and are so friendly and helpful it feels like a second home. There is cleaning that happens in the hostel everyday between 11am-3pm but you can still use the premises and sit around the common area, it’s just the onsen that’s closed. The onsen is also absolutely amazing. The town also kinda goes to sleep relatively early so the hostel is quite peaceful by 9pm. I stayed in a female only dorm and it was quite spacious and everyone was tidy and quiet at night.
Hokkawa Onsen, Higashiizu
There is a coffee shop, and a minimarket is also available. The ryokan is located in a geothermal area, with a number of hot springs nearby for guests to relax in.
Guests can also relax in the shared lounge area.
Bousui - really magnificent ryokan hotel which takes special place in my wife’s and mine hearts😄!
Room was very big, all over traditionally designed, very atmospheric and comfortable!
Hot spring baths were amazing too: luxurious, very comfortable and with beautiful sea views! Premium gazebo was especially great! Really worth it!
Employee, who helped us in room was very attentive, helpful and made all we could need to take all the best from our staying! Special thanks for pleasant conversations and tons of very interesting information! You made our staying unforgettable!
Additionally to traditional breakfast, we asked for Kaiseki dinner - it was third Kaiseki we got, and truly, the most delicious and impressive! Fish was as fresh as it is possible, serving was full of beautiful and very interesting details!
Last, but not least part of our rest was massage in award winning GECCA SPA: to be honest, Suzune gave me greatest massage I ever got! She was so attentive and diligent, made message with so masterpiece, that I’ve got extreme pleasure and relief! More over, it was first time when I feel, that therapist don’t just do it work, but really cares of me!🙏🏻 Btw, my wife never liked massages, but even she was really impressed by Suzune’s work!
Thanks to all Bousui Team for one of the most unforgettable experiences in Japan for our all three trips! Really hope to come back as soon as possible!
All the best, Lora and Aleksey

Spacious rooms, very tastefully decorated in a minimalistic style. The private onsen was blissful. Food was excellent (although a bit pricey). The hotel is 5 minutes from the bus station, with connections to the main cities and to the Kamikoche park. Overall, highly recommended.
Higashiizu
Featuring private open-air hot spring bath in all rooms, Isaribi is located in Hagashiizu, 2.7 km from Atagawa Hot Springs. Guests can savour Japanese breakfast and dinner in their rooms for some of the room types. The charming ryokan offers free WiFi and on-site parking. What can I say? If you want to experience a Japanese onsen, it is perfect. The welcome with a small matcha and delicacies and, if necessary, a shuttle to pick you up at the station was exellent. The person who greeted us spoke very good English. The room was typical of Japanese inns with a hot spring inside (adjustable heat). The two baths are really good with a ‘first come first served’ system you can get in and lock behind you to have the huge onsen all to yourself. With this system you can go with friends/family or as lovers. We also had meals included, and they were truly fabulous, a big bravo to the chef. If you want quality, don't hesitate, It will really be worth it, if I go through Izu again I'll definitely come back. Thank you for the experience, it was really great.

The property also provides free pick-up service from JR Takayama Station. Free shuttle bus service is available when check-in, check-out, after dinner. We had a fantastic stay at SOY. Tai-san and his family are very welcoming hosts, and extremely focused on making your stay as enjoyable as possible. The rooms are impeccably curated, and the breakfasts are delicious. Tai-san is also always ready to drop/pick you up from the city if required, and provides great recommendations on things to do and where to eat - even makes reservations for you! Absolutely recommended stay in Takayama 😃 (the cute cat Tara-san is the added bonus 😁)

The food offered for dinner and breakfast were outstanding. The staff, with their limited English, managed to make the stay exceptional and always went the extra step to make me feel comfortable even though communication from my end was shaky!! The onsens were so relaxing !!At check out, they dropped me.to the station which was absolutely lovely.Best Place! Best People!
My stay at the Ryokan was exceptional. The beautiful and serene setting above the waters provided peace and tranquility. The staff were outstanding, ensuring a lovely experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my time and highly recommend this place for a relaxing getaway.
Amazing location, just a couple of minutes away from Ito station and right by the ocean. The open bath is not tattoo friendly, however there were other options available, both free and for a small fee. Highly recommend paying for the open air bath, it’s located on the roof terrace with an excellent view, lovely atmosphere and relaxing bath. Very friendly staff. Ito is a very charming town with gorgeous nature and lovely atmosphere.
Great location being right in the centre of the old town. Rooms a decent size but sadly felt the beds too hard and uncomfortable. The staff were so lovely and helpful and we especially enjoyed the onsen experience which was super clean and relaxing.
This place is a luxury, you are treated exceptionally well, the staff is extremely helpful and kind and so very welcoming. The amenities and location are just amazing, you can walk along the beach as it's right across the street, There are only a few rooms so it is very peaceful, the onsens are amazing, the staff made us wonderful ice coffee to relax with outside as well. I wish I could have stayed longer.
Good location, close to the station and the old town. Bikes to hire for free. Jacuzzi and steam room were nice to relax in. Room was clean with all the necessary facilities.
Great Facilities, the onsen bath was relaxing. Lovely view from my bed corner to the garden. Most of all, staff/Manager is so friendly and courteous and helpful with local recommendations. Great view of Atami city and beach, especially at night. Overall, it was a lovely place to stay in Atami.
Very stylish hotel. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. On arrival, the valet helped with our luggage, showed me where to park (we convoyed to it) and gave me a lift back to the hotel. The room was very spacious (the most spacious one we had in the 3 weeks we were in Japan). They did free drinks in the evening and have a lovely lounge space to relax in.
