A beautiful cool oasis in the middle of town. The rooms are cooled and very comfortable. There is a huge veranda with comfy chairs and sofas. The breakfast is served in the garden and is absolutely delicious. It is one of the most comfortable places I’ve ever stayed at.

Everything needed was there and we we’re so lucky to see lots of animals in front of us :). We walked 2 trails that I definitely recommend you to do as well.

The Lord Milner Hotel is situated in the historic village of Matjiesfontein in the Karoo region, just of the N1 highway. This Victorian style hotel features a garden and restaurant. The Lord Milner Hotel is an antique wonder, with modern facilities. I had a beautiful room with a lounge area, enormous bathroom, king-size bed with top sheet and aircon. My companion was moved from her original room into a charming one with a balcony overlooking the original road. The free bus tour and ghost story are a delight and Johnny leads everyone in a great singalong in the Laird’s Arms. The dinner was excellent and the included breakfast huge. A definite treat along the route to Cape Town.

Our stay at Haus Holzapfel was brief, only booked for one night, en route to Cape Town, so it was suitable as a halfway stop for the night. The location was good, a short drive from the main road, the facilities were well maintained overall, and the check-in was remotely done, smooth and straightforward. The rooms were good, and slept well. Would definitely recommend to those who need good accommodation for either spending time in the area or just passing by.
