JapanThe hotel is located within the Towada-Hachimantai National Park and just down the road from the Hakkoda ropeway if you're hoping to see the famous snow monsters. Although in a remote location, the drive up was one of the most picturesque snowy landscapes we're experienced in Japan. The hotel is well insulated, incredibly clean with amazingly plush beds and the staff were incredibly friendly too. We did the half board which was well worth it- ended up with a 9 course dinner and then a breakfast buffet.
The main highlight though of course was the outdoor onsen looking onto the snowy trees whilst bathing in the onsen water. The hotel is small-medium size place so you're more than likely to have the onsen to yourself, which is much nicer than some of the bigger complexes or if you're looking for more of a meditative onsen experience. Finally, this place even has it's own little shrine next to the hotel to admire.

I am a tattoo bearer and I understand that we may not be able to use the onsen. Not only was the owner super understanding, they also had a private bath!! I LOVE THAT! We also last minute book our dinner and breakfast and she was very accommodating. The meals were both exceptional and I would 100% recommend this Ryokan if you want to enjoy an authentic ryokan experience!! The Ryokan have two private onsen (indoor) you can use anytime. Staff was super friendly!! Meal was ok (not huge, but ok!), traditional Japanese style. Place was all trraditional style and located in a small town near a dam, with beatifull scenery. Very quiet place you can only access by bus. My family had never been to a ryokan or experienced an onsen and it was a great first experience for them. As a vegetarian, I have found this ryokan to be the absolute best for the vegan food option out of the many ryokans and hotels I've stayed at in Japan.
