The breakfast was traditional Japanese, very healthy & plentiful. There were a few items I didn’t eat though my husband ate everything. Taz’s mother waitressed ( at the age of 87!) & was always smiling & helpful. 3 small onsens - enough for couples. My husband’s aches & pains disappeared after a dip. Easy walk to centre of town & lovely park. On a weekend both areas are lit up. The park is particularly beautiful.

Very clean, modern and stylish. Beds were big and comfy, onsens downstairs included one outdoors and multiple private ones for booking. the onsen amenities were also much more comprehensive compared to the public ones outside. We didn’t have any issues with delays in checking in or out, prob because it was in the morning and staff were all very nice and helpful even going to the extent to help take multiple photos for our trip. Yukata is provided for you to easily explore the area and various onsens nearby. Short 250m walk to terminal and to the main yubatake area. We also loved the kaiseki dinner course and delicate breakfast provided. All in all was a lovely time spent there :)

Staff was fantastic, helpful and courteous. Even good at taking photos. The check in procedure was very smooth. Rooms were large and comfortably sized for 4 persons. The outdoor bath was clean and hot at a good temperature. Dinner and breakfast was served very well by a staff member. I appreciate his enthusiasm. Location is fantastic - a few minutes to the park and outdoor onsen, and a few minutes down the road to the town center. Ample parking available as well.

Both dinner and breakfast were very good, they even made some changes for me as I do not eat fish and have some food allergies. Room was nice and onsen was great as well. You can also book a private onsen, which we enjoyed to have mixed bath. Good location. Very professional and friendly staff. A bit retro vibe, but it suits that place very nicely.

Location was right off the central onsen/square of Kusatsu. Very convenient, calm and quiet. The ryokan itself had 2 private and 2 gendered onsens that were almost always available for our own use and I will absolutely stay here again if I visit Kusatsu again.

Me and my friends stayed at this lovely ryokan for one night. We enjoyed our spacious room and the private and public Onsen hot springs of the hotel. The hotel is located in a nice central spot which is great for exploring Kusatsu Onsen. The food and services were good.

I really loved the whole experience at Ryokan Tamura. I felt very relaxed and pampered since dinner and breakfast was served, and we loved using the onsen. We asked for vegan food, and they informed us that the broth may contain dashi, but for us that was ok. The food was delicious and we got to try some of the traditional Japanese cuisine consisting of mainly vegetables. There were men only and women only onsens, and two private onsens. The water was super warm and relaxing. The staff was also very welcoming and nice and spoke english.

It was a beautiful stay and our first experience at a ryokan. We were made to feel very special from the moment we arrived, until the time we checked out. The meals were lovely. Lots of interesting things to try for both dinner and breakfast and dressed in the provided yukatas. We loooooved our private onsen in our room and also tried two of the three private onsens on site which can be used by any guest pending availability. Beautiful views! The town is also lovely but be prepared for the sulfur smell from the hot springs!

Western style room was great! The tatami room had ample room for several futons, in addition to a couple beds outside the tatami room. Open concept with sliding doors was great for our group (6 people) so we can chat and hangout freely, and slide the doors shut at night for privacy. Breakfast was good. The outdoor onsen was really nice.

The Onsen was gorgeous, clean and well organised with an efficient and easy to understand system. The staff was exceptionally friendly, welcoming and helpful, and spoke English very very well. The rooms were beautiful and super warm (even while there in the snow you did not have to worry about rugging up). I loved the classic wooden ryokan set-up and tatami floors with futons. Futons were also made for you each night while you were out, and packed up for you after you left in the morning.

Kusatsu is a beautiful town, built around a hot spring. The hotel (ryokan) was located 2 blocks from the central area - well within easy walking distance. It was a perfect town and hotel for a 24-hour visit. Lots of stores and artisanal food in town. At the hotel, we enjoyed the public onsen as well as an hour in a private room. The kaiseki (multi-course) dinner was excellent as was the breakfast.
